Current plebe- feel free to ask for Beast advice or school year

Any opinion on note-taking tech? Have seen posts elsewhere regarding Remarkable vs Apple Pen.

How many days a week do you wear Class Bs to class? Asking because we may get inserts for my son’s low quarters if he’ll be wearing them a lot. Thank you

I use an iPad and Apple Pencil. Some people use other brands of tablets. I’d just use whatever your preference is.

You mean as for class? We typically wear them 2 days a week. However during beast you will wear low quarters almost everyday.

Our DS just got his acceptance to WP yesterday and he wanted to know how often he will be able to see family? What are the breaks and for how long? Will he get use of a cell or computer for family/friend communication during the first year? He is also having to decide this against NAVY and ARMY ROTC as choices but is leaning WP for obvious reasons. Greatly appreciate your feedback.

lol who told y’all there’s no phones here? The only time he won’t have his phone is during beast. And even then after 3 weeks we get them back for about 4 hours and we can call back home. You can see him A day weekend, 2 days. Thanksgiving break was 3 or 4 days. You can come up for family weekend - 3 days. Christmas is 2 weeks. Spring break is 1 week. And then there’s several 3 day weekends that y’all could fly up or he can fly down depending on if y’all want to. We always have access to our phones and he can call home as much as he wants during AY year. We get issued computers and he can also bring his own computer to. However I wouldn’t bring a ton of extra stuff till after beast.

Also plebe parent weekend parents are invited to come from Friday - Sunday and then plebes are released to be with y’all till the next Sunday. So that’s about 10 days there.

Thank you for your feedback. Our DS wanted to ask if Red running shoes are ok or do I need to stick to a certain color? He currently has a pair of these for Cross Country now.running shoes.jpg

Also are the combat boots black or tan for low and high? Thanks

I'll put in some answers here as well, low-quarters are worn with As For Class uniform which is on Monday and Tuesday most weeks so not worn nearly as much. Inserts are only if you need them, after breaking them in they're comfortable so personally I don't wear inserts. Although during R-Day you'll most likely get blisters and sore feet because the low-quarters aren't broken in.

For the question about the running shoes, it's not that strict by AR 670-1 standards you'll just need to wear "athletic running shoes" so you can't wear converse and stuff like that which some people wear when lifting in Arvin. Red is fine although I'd stick with neutral colors to be on the safe side in case some officer thinks your shoes are "too bright." Combat boots are coyote brown and must be AR 670-1 compliant, you can look up the typical boots that people wear. I'd recommend Garmont T8 Bifida or NFS for the field and maybe Oakley Light Assault Boots for garrison/ school environment later on.

Thanks for doin this! I have a few questions:

1) SPECIFICALLY, how many pairs of underwear / dress socks / boot socks should I bring?
2) What kind of watch should I get for CBT?
3) Should I bring a shoeshine kit?
4) Do you recommend wearing liners underneath socks for boots/low-quarters? If so, where do you get them (I've seen this advised on other threads)?
5) Do you recommend Medicated powder or other foot-treatments for blisters? If so, what?

Thanks again!
I don't see a response for this one so I'll help you out.

1) Lots of them. As much as you can fit pretty much into your bag but don't bring more than one bag (at least 15 pairs of long black socks with no logo and underwear.) I wouldn't get too many super quality boot socks like Fox River, I did fine with two pairs for hard rucks and wore issued boot socks most of the time.
2) A cheap digital watch that's black with no fancy stuff, just the time and an alarm on it
3) Yes if you can find one, but don't stress if you can't because we have them at the C-store.
4) Not necessary in my opinion, I've done just fine on all the gnarly stuff like the Norwegian Foot March with Fox River socks and the green boots socks are perfectly fine for a normal field day.
5) You'll get issued foot powder to keep them dry for the field so don't bring it, I recommend bringing some moleskin to put on place you know will have hotspots for longer rucks but you don't need it unless you're doing something hard, most days I just wore plain old boot socks with no problems.

You can wear any color shoes. Cadre do not say anything. Combat boots are tan. Just google AR 670-1 compliant boots.

My DS wanted to know if he could FaceTime his family when he has down time after beast?
Wym after beast? Like during AY year, if so yes we will always have our phones so he could call whenever he’s done with class. If you mean during beast then they can FaceTime around July 18th during the ice cream social cus he’ll get his phone for about 4 or 5 hours I think. And during beast you get 1 phone call a week ish to call home.

So be sure to answer your phone if it rings any time during beast. Sometimes the cadets will have a little down time. It isn't uncommon for cadre to let Cadet Candidates use their cell phones to call home, even before the mid-point Ice Cream Social. No telling where the cadre is from so answer any strange looking call. It may not be someone selling a car warranty.

I saw a lot of info about running earlier, but do cadets run daily during BEAST?

Additionally, I also saw that it looks like BEAST is split in two parts. Is one half slightly more informational (like marching, learning basics of military life, or testing) while the other is more physical oriented?
