Current Preppies answer your questions! USAFA Prep

Reveille is not played outside of basic training, but the duty day starts at 0730 which is when we need to be awake, in uniform, and have doors open.
 
Taps is at 2200 (10 pm) Sunday-Thursday
- 0000 (12 am) Friday and Saturday

Retreat is at 1645 (4:45 pm) This represents the end of the duty day.
 
What is the criteria for prep? How many people that don’t get an appointment get asked to the prep school?

There is no one set criteria for prep. People get sent her for a variety of reasons (low CFA , grades, ACT/SAT scores, sports). People can also be sent with or without a nomination. On average around 230 people arrive at the Prep and only 190 graduate. Many people will get kicked out or they may just decide that it isn’t for them. If you focus on grades and are in “good standing” then you won’t have to worry about getting an appointment. Nothing is guaranteed but it is very realistic to get an appointment through the prep.

also if I played soccer during my high school year not in school but for a club can I try out for the prep soccer team and when do they have tryouts?
I did not do the questionnaire for the sports thing because I was scared I just wanted to try out in person

Yes! Your portal will be updated letting you know. For both nominations and appointment you should get a document in the mail.

You are more than welcome to tryout for the team during basic. After basic they will then have one last call for anything that may want to tryout, but it mainly happens the last week of basic.

There are tryouts during basic, and if you are decent at soccer you can walk on to the team like I did.

so what during basic you train then can join the team right after? i know I just repeated what you said but this is specifically for prep and academy correct?
 
Are there any prior E’s who arrived from overseas bases? (More specifically, south Korea) I was wondering if it would be possible to take leave enroute before your DEROS.

Yes. We had four from Ramstein and Yokota, and all of them burned most of their leave before coming here.
 
In relation to appointments overall. Are the majority of PS appointments already given similarly to the academy or is there a greater percentage of PS appointments still pending?
 
Am I allowed to bring my hot weather OCPs (IHWCU)? They look different from the regular OCPs.
 
Two quick questions:
1. Is lacrosse an option for sport at USAFAPS?
2. As my DS is already a certified pilot, will there be any opportunity to fly while he is there?

We have several recruited athletes here at the Prep but there is no club team specifically for the Prep. I would imagine if they wanted to start a club or something of the sort that they could.
