Current VMI Cadets Drum - Out

Yes. According to my DS (a 2C), they are not as common as they were the previous few years. However, there was at least one recently.

I wouldn’t read too much into this either. During my time there, there were semesters with several and there were semesters with none. Sometimes there are just fewer investigations, sometimes fewer where the HC Prosecutors think the accused is guilty, and sometimes the jury acquits more, etc…and other times it’s the opposite. Just like the real justice system.

However, here we’re talking about a population size small enough (HC suspects) where dropping to near none is not statistically significant. I’d say it’s a good thing.

Not like criminal trials just stopping for a semester in a county/state…that’d be concerning lol.

I'm not sure I like calling them a "tradition"... Not sure what else to call it, but to me tradition feels like something to be cherished and celebrated. And while a drum out means the system is working, tradition just feels wrong.

I cherish that our system is working. I think it’s important that the corps knows that an otherwise pretty closed door (for good reason) system is working and that we do what we say we’re going to do when it comes to standards of honor. In that way, they’re symbolic. That doesn’t mean a drum out is a “celebration.”
