..... or are midshipmen not allowed to accept gifts? I'm just in "mom-mode" here, thinking a teenager away from home would appreciate some goodies from a California weekend visitor. Any thoughts or ideas of would be okay / a good idea to bring?

There are many CVW threads discussing CVWs and bringing something for the room to share. Use the Search function to browse.

Cookies or other home-baked/bakery goods never go amiss. Enough to share around a room of 3 or so roommates is usually good. More will readily be vacuumed up by other plebes.

Gifts are not expected. Home-made cookies or brownies are always a hit, though. My wife sends bags of dried fruit (typically pineapple and apples) that we dehydrate at home, and everyone in my DS' Company loves the stuff.
But I shall reiterate that gifts are not expected. If you want to send something though, it won't insult anyone.

Mom of a Mid who had a drag, and almost the first thing he said when I asked him about it was how delicious the home made goodies were that he brought, enough for him and his buddies. Yes they are appreciated and I wouldn’t hesitate to send along. They will be a big hit. Won’t help with admissions at all.

Equally NOT required AND appreciated!

Lol. If only gaining admission was as easy as bringing homemade cookies!!

No ulterior motives here, we’ve trained our kids to be good guests and never show up empty handed. We just don’t know the rules for having food in the rooms. Do the plebes volunteer for this duty or are they assigned? And from an earlier thread the visitors are referred to as “drags” ??

Thank you for the suggestions, I couldn’t find previous threads covering this topic.

Lol. from my experience as a drag in August of this year, there are almost none. My Mid ordered chinese night 1 and papa johns night 2 it was awesome.

Yes! I was a drag of the 26th Company "Rough Riders"!

Do the plebes volunteer for this duty or are they assigned?
No clue but they would love to do it either way because rooms with drags (apparently, please correct me if I'm wrong) rate media for the 3 days/2 nights the drag is there.

Sent 2 dozen chocolate cookies for CVW fall of 2017. They were well received. Ha. My DS protested me sending them with him originally but said they were very much appreciated. Hard to believe that was already 2 years ago. Good luck with the process, exciting and stressful. GO NAVY!

DW made a large batch of chocolate chip cookies for our DS to take to his plebes during his CVW. DS was sort of embarrassed by the thought, as he felt it was kind of a nerdy gesture. Nonetheless, he took the cookies with him anyway.

When we met up with DS Sunday morning he said the cookies were a huge hit and very much appreciated. He said his primary plebe walked around campus gloating to fellow plebes: “My drag brought me cookies, what did your drag bring you?” So darn funny!

So funny, I am getting the exact same response, but he's bringing cookies too! Thank you for sharing

If you give a Mid a cookie… Just wondering if this is how Fat Leonard got started?

Yes, bring something! They are still kids and like scooby snacks! DD's experience was that other mids/cadets (sorry, probably mixing the terms) suddenly happen to stop by to ask her hosts something....and oh! Some cookies and snacks! You can't go wrong with chocolate chip cookies, goldfish type crackers (bunnies, rockets, scrabble tiles, etc), and something chocolate.

Agree with above.

Also be sure to bring PT gear and swim suit and towel. If your Plebe invites you to a morning workout you want to be prepared.

So glad to find this thread! DD is going this week and I have a ton of cookie dough in the freezer that needs to leave my house ASAP! :)

Bring plenty! DS made it through airport security with about 4 pounds of chocolate chip cookies & snicker-doodle blondies. The 3 midshipmen in his room ate them all in ONE sitting on the first night - It was a great ice breaker to good conversations 👍

(P.s. I made them in a large jelly roll pan, cut them in big slabs and packed them tight in hard cardboard boxes from a craft store. DS said they survived the trip intact.)
