I know the letter says casual, but in January with snow on the ground and being much farther south - what is casual winter attire? Khaki or jeans for pants. What about shoes? Any insight you can provide is appreciated.

Think business casual, better to be over dressed than sloppy as far as shoes no sneakers. Take a pair just in case.

Have fun and relax and take it all in

I just wore a nice pair of slacks and a button up shirt with a nice coat (it's fairly cold here) and pumps with nice professional jewelry. not too girly but still femanine.
Business casual is probably a good "goal" for attire and overdressed is definately better. At my last two interviews I think I was dressed nicer than the woman who worked in the office.

Hey- I attended the November CVW and I just wore khaki's, a shirt and tie, and a sport coat (one day). One 1/C even asked me if I wore a tie and looked so sharp everyday... well, what can I say... ha jk but other candidates also wore button-up shirts and sweaters.

I would go ahead and say a button-up shirt and nice shoes are a must. Not required, but to refrain from these just makes you look less sharp and put together relative to everyone else. And every little bit makes a difference.

I hope you enjoy your stay- I certainly enjoyed mine. Keep an open mind (I found the reality of Ac year was very different from the Summer Seminar-Plebe Summerish experience) don't be afraid to interact with the Mids, take every opportunity to see everything you can, SHOW YOUR ENTHUSIASM- with lots of gusto (but try not to be a Joe lol). The place is awesome!

From what my CGO told me, CVW wasn't designed for you to impress them--it was designed for them to impress you. I really don't think that if you showed up in jeans and sneakers somebody would look sideways at you.

Just a thought though, wear whatever you want as long as it's not ridiculous.

Yeah, ha-ha, the definition of "tasteful, comfortable casual clothes" can be twisted in so many ways.

I wonder what would happen if I showed up in 'Go-Army' t-shirt.

The youngster I shadowed told me to just bring jeans and confortable clothes that we were going to be doing a lot of things and it would be better for those activities. So, I would bring a mix of slacks and nice shirts as well as Jeans and t-shirts and ask who ever you are shadowing what you should wear. Oh and by the way, many people wore comfortable clothes so no one was out of place.
respectfully,

I believe this is what USNA would classify as a Character DQ haha :shake:

The drags that I have had wear dress shirt and khakis. maybe dress shoes. make sure your hair isnt too long, otherwise you might not fit in. Whoever said the weekend is for us to impress you, wrong. It's both. We will show you how the Academy works, but as an insurance policy, your host will eval. you so don't be a slob. Remember, when youre in a room, leave no trace, because if you're with a plebe, the plebe will get in trouble.

Thanks that is the information I was looking for. Someone who is in it right now.....I want to fit in and not look out of place. Khakis I can do. Would like to wear jeans, but if I am going to be out of the ordinary then I will leave them home. :thumb:

I have dragged many a candidate. The little evaluations that we have done - or a least I had to do were not for admissions. It was a assignment to evaluate my ability to properly review the candidate and properly write the review. We were told they never left out company but was required by my company leadership. As far as I was told they never get to your admissions file.

During the day when accompanying your Mid to class Khakis or nice jeans are fine. Try to fit in and look nice as your hosts are in uniform or working blues. In the evening in hall jeans are perfectly acceptable. I would never comment in a review on attire unless it was tasteless and inappropriate - statement making T shirts and jeans below the boxers will not fly. Nice jeans with tucked in shirt - probably woven button down or a nice sweater is really fine.

Any Plebe who thinks they are helping to pick the next class is a bit delusional. CVW is really intended for us to put on a good "show" to help the candidate evaluate us and as an institution and Brigade.

CVW

This is sort of off topic but if i'm driving myself to CVW (Jan 22) do i bring my car onto the yard or leave it somewhere in the town of Annapolis?
