looking for info on what type of physical activity/exercises are done during CVW. Daughter will attend this spring and in the FAQ there is mention of Saturday morning training - physical fitness group challenge. Participation is optional but just curious what all is done. Any advice would be appreciated.

I think it depends on the company she is assigned to. My company executed martial arts training while I heard others did games.

Thanks Joe! There’s no mention of anything done on the Friday they’re there but curious if the drags participate in morning PEP? I noticed she’s asked to bring a swim suit too.

My son was looking forward to working out with them. He was disappointed ... they didn’t let them work out.

Instead they watched a bear crawl competition between two companies.

I could see how that would be disappointing! Wonder if it’s about liability? But then why even mention it in the invite?

Bring a swim suit in case of swimming PT. I was able to participate with the other drags in the company. We had our own group separate from plebes.

It wasn’t liability. I think it was more to do with the schedule already being set with a competition.

Come prepared and if they let you play then great. I am sure they are in full swing for training for Sea Trials coming up in a few months (if they have knocked out this semster’s PRT).

The PRT is coming up very soon. I expect that Plebes with low PRT scores will receive a little extra training, but yes training for Sea Trials has already begun. I asked my Plebe if it was fun. He hasn't answered me yet. ;)

They will also have the option to workout on Friday morning with the Plebes. When I was there at CVW, on Saturday the Mids I was with ran to the cemetery and we paid our respects for some of the fallen sailors. I was the only “drag”/Candidate who went along on the workout and the mids were impressed. Highly recommend that your DD go to the workouts because she won’t have the option if she is fortunate to attend USNA and she will leave an impression on the Midshipman she is with.

Definitely plan on getting her running distance again - to be prepared if that’s the task. As a volleyball player, running for distance isn’t encouraged, messes with verticals.

When I went at the end of January it was just before the PRT, I think, because I ran with my plebes company in the morning. She was gone a lot because she had practice and a lot of appointments that weekend so I mostly hung out with another plebe and he took me to the gym once? I don’t think that was allowed...

During her CVW I was in shock when DD ran every morning 3-5 miles. Her Plebe was a track athlete who easily skipped along at 6 minute pace at 0530. This inspired my DD to step up her running game. She works out daily for her sport, but like ginam1310, it wasn’t focused on running. She still cant run a 6 minute mile, but can handle 5 miles easily now. Make the most of CVW in every way possible.

No PEP after plebe summer.
