DS is going to CVW at the end of this month. He will arrive at BWI with about 3 hours to spare. The confirmation letter suggested to eat dinner before he arrives since the next meal won't be till Friday morning. Would the DryDock Restaurant at Dahlgren Hall be a good place to eat or should he eat at the airport before he catches a shuttle to the Naval Academy?

I think with the extra time you have it is basically up to you. My parents and I are going to a CVW as well and similar to you we will be arriving early with time to spare and we will probably find a nearby restaurant to eat at.

Dahlgren is a snack bar. It's fine for pizza, etc. and you can get plenty to eat there.

If you get to the Yard early, I'd recommend walking downtown. Try Moe's if you like monster tacos. Tons of places within a few block walk.

Get to Annapolis to eat, in any case, either on the Yard or off.

DS attended CVW in Oct. He also caught super shuttle. There were other candidates on shuttle and they arrived at academy with several hours to spare. I told DS to go to Dry Dock Rest but he and other candidates walked to downtown and ate there. He said it was comical seeing their group of boys walking around pulling their suitcase behind them! Your DS will probably link up with other attendees on the shuttle...especially if there are 115 attending.

I grew up near Annapolis, and McGarvey's and Riordan's were staples of my youth. Riordan's has since closed, but McGarvey's is thriving. I still hit it every time DS and I are in Annapolis. Still a great place to get a proper Maryland crab cake. It is a three minute walk from the visitor's center entrance to the Yard.

Thanks for the information! Hopefully DS will meet some other candidates on the shuttle. I'll pass your suggestions on to him.

What CVW sesssion are you attending? DS is coming from Midwest on April 11. Flying to DC. Way cheaper than Baltimore from NE.

DS had a CVW last Feb. He went to the Subway shop for dinner at the top of Main St. There were a few other kids doing the same thing . It was good to meet some other kids before getting dropped off. Also gave him a chance to walk through town. Plebes spend a lot of their Saturday afternoons walking around Annapolis so its a good idea to get a feel for the town as well.

DS will have some time Saturday afternoon before he has to catch flight so he will have a chance to see some sights. Bowhunter, DS is attending CVW starting January 31st. He is flying in from Denver. Next time I'll check on flights into DC. Thanks for the advice.

I'll bring my son down thursday morning and will be having dinner at Chick and Ruth's deli at about 4pm. Will be just inside gate 1 if anyone else wants to meet up at 3:30pm to walk over to the Deli.

I went on a CVW back in October and rode Super Shuttle as well. On board, I met 5 other CVW candidates, two from my own state of Colorado. We got there 3 hours early, and I ate at the airport, but we went to Dry Docks and ate there anyways. They let us on no problem, and it left us time to explore the campus a little before spending the weekend there!
