CVW Question

So I will be attending a CVW in April, I will hopefully be Appointed by then.
My question was regarding the schedule. Will we take part in training or will we be allowed to go off on our own physical activities? I was hoping that I would be able to go to the Navy track and run, maybe even meet the team and the Coach of their program if they are around and not too busy. Do we have to stay with our assigned plebe and do whatever they are doing for physical activity?
Thanks for any information.

My DD did a CVW in fall of 2014. (She is now a plebe) She is a runner but did not run with any team; rather several of the members of the company she was assigned to did a run first thing in the morning (I think around 5:30). She commented that it was so beautiful and it was a great time to talk with several members of the company. There were 4 of them on the run & none were the plebe she assigned to. She got to talk with 2 youngsters & 2 other plebes.
So to answer your question, if your plebe is not a runner, there will be others in the company that are, ask to tag along with them. Chances are they may even be members in the company that are on the track team. Enjoy your visit & soak in as much information as possible.

This seems to depend on the Plebe. As to meeting the coach, ask your Plebe to introduce you to someone on the team and they should be able to help introduce you to the coach. You won't be able to train with any D1 team. Its against NCAA rules. More than likely your visit will be right before Sea Trials so alot of Plebes will be training for that. You do not have to stay strictly tied to your Plebe. They will have a roommate or two and you will get to know them. Ask your Plebe to speak to upperclass who are in the major you are interested in, clubs you may want to join, etc. Each class provides a unique perspective based upon their experiences and time at the Academy. Firsties will have completed nearly their entire 4 years and have different perspectives then a Plebe. Talk to them all about summer training, service selection, majors, etc. This is your visit, ask to see and talk to different folks, just don't be passive and blend in with the wall. As to training with your Plebe, for some its your choice, other companies won't let them. Ask if you want to.

You should email the coach to see if the team will be around. A cursory look at their schedule indicates they have away invitationals almost every weekend in April. Each company will likely have cross-country and track athletes within, so you can ask around to talk with them; it might be possible to work out with them (as individuals...not team). I defer to recent CVW attendees and MIDN on if drags are attached to the sponsor's hip. hopefulmom19 also had a good suggestion.

I was going to go to the track and train by myself as I'll be in season as well. I was asking if it would be possible to do so.
Also, in the email I was told to bring swim trunks as well...is there a mandatory swim that I am unaware of?

You should be able to go run, if your Plebe is busy, its a good time to go run or ask them to team you up with someone to go run. Some Plebes have swim for PT in the mornings. Bring a swimsuit in case you want to partake.

DS attended CVW Spring of 2014 (now attending NROTC.) There was another CVW candidate who wore his jrotc uniform and was ridiculed on social media. Don't be the guy who wears his HS letterman jacket, seal pins/shirts etc. Wear nondescript clothing, bring your host homemade treats, have fun and ask questions.

There's a sports period every weekday. I guarantee there will be a plebe or upperclass doing something you want to do. Soak it in, it's an awesome opportunity.
