I am attending CVW January 25th to 27th, and I was wondering what the schedule for the visit is like. I know that I will be "dragged" by a current plebe, and I am so excited! In terms of my schedule though, all I know from my CVW email and the online information is the check-in and check-out information. I would like to meet with a coach, but I am unsure if there would be time for me to do that. If anyone has gone to CVW and would like to share their experience with me, I would greatly appreciate it!

Lots of older threads where people discuss their experience.

I have looked through the old threads, but I am looking for people who have had free time in CVW schedules.

There will be free time in your schedule. When your Plebe finishes up class there will be time unless they have intramurals, sport or ECA. If you are interested in talking with a coach I would recommend you email the coach and introduce yourself and ask if they have time to meet during your CVW. The contact info is on the Navy Sports website. There is a form you can fill out on the website with your athletic info if you ware interested in pursuing a sport. I would also say to be realistic. If your times aren’t up to par or you aren’t being recruited by other schools, the chances are slim. Know if you are competitive before meeting with coaches. They are busy and if in season even busier. If you can set up a time that would be best. Just tell your host and they will make sure you get there.

Thanks NavyHoops. I have already emailed the coach and we are working out times. I am glad to know there might be opening in my schedule.

I emailed the CVW coordinator and asked to stay with a plebe that was on the sports team that I was interested in. They said they could make it happen.

Since I was already shadowing a midshipman that was on the team, I got to go to their practice. Since I was obviously out of place (AKA the only one sitting on the sidelines), the coach came over and talked to me for about 30 mins while the athletes were warming up. I'd say it's worth a shot to at least ask.

Here was the CVW Student Schedule that was handed out when I had my CVW last year. I doubt that it has changed since.

My host was willing to let me see whatever/whoever during my visit. If there is a schedule conflict, they will most likely pair you up with another midshipman who is free and can take you to where ever you need to go.

    Thursday
    6:00 pm - Welcome & Admissions Brief
7:00 pm - Candidates Depart With Midshipmen
    Friday
    7:00 am - Morning Formation & Breakfast
    7:55 am - Morning Classes
    12:05 pm - Noon Formation & Lunch
    1:30 pm - Afternoon Classes
    4:00 pm - Athletic Period
    6:00 pm - Dinner
    8:00 pm - Study Period
    Saturday
    9:00 am - Student Pickup

Are all midshipman capable of being partnered with a drag for a CVW, or are only a select few trained?

It seemed like they were assigned to anyone. When I showed up at the door, my mid didn't know that they were going to be hosting a candidate. They said that they never signed up to host, but that they knew a few friends who had.

My assigned host let me shadow his roommate, so I basically did everything with his roommate throughout the entire visit.

DS volunteered to do remedial PT at 0530 with his plebe. He was the only drag. The instructor offered DS a chance to bug out but he wanted to be there.

DS was there the night before a football game (no studying) and his room of plebes dragged (haha) him to the field house for speed ball (loved it!).

My point is semper gumby - be flexible, take advantage of your opportunities and have fun!

Hi USNAismyplace, I am headed to CVW in a couple weeks. The packing list says to bring PT gear and a swim suit. I thought it was mostly shadowing or observing, and would appreciate hearing if you participated at all in any PT/swimming and what you did for those activities. Also, in general, did you get the sense that your plebes or anyone else was evaluating you on any level? I am guessing that there is some kind of report filed with admissions, but I would be curious what you think since you were just there. I would greatly appreciate hearing about your experience. Thanks so much!

So the whole PT Gear and swimsuit is there in case you wish to partake in the sports period of the Midshipman that you are "shadowing." While I was attending CVW, I had the opportunity to row with the rowing team and play basketball in Macdonough Hall with the plebes of the 14th Company. So, there is nothing that the Naval Academy will make you do, but instead, all of the events are mandatory. Please remember that you are there to fully experience life at the Naval Academy, so keep an open mind and be prepared to have an absolute blast.

If you’re a Junior you maybe assessed by your host with a write up from him. But if you’re an Appointee then they will likely market you to join the class in June! Same experience different attitude toward the visiting candidate. Enjoy the CVW!

    Hi galileo,
I brought PT gear and a swimsuit, but I did not need either. What you do really depends on the mid you are with and what their schedule is like. My mid had her crew practice in the morning, at lunch, and in the evening so she placed me with her mid friends during those time periods. I did go to crew practice in the evening but they did not have us drags participate. I don't think I was being evaluated and I think I read on here they don't evaluate you at CVW, but maybe someone can clarify that for me. Overall I had a jam-packed, exciting time and I am even more passionate about the Academy. Have fun at your CVW!

Officially they don't evaluate you when you are there for a CVW, but my DS received an LOA two days after getting back from his CVW.
I suppose that it may have been a coincidence, but it didn't seem like it.

It's a good story, but probably a coincidence. I can't imagine USNA moving that quickly on anything. :)

USNA Admissions has stated that there are no evaluations done for CVW participants. Conversely, there are evaluations done at NASS by the squad leader.
