I was really excited to be offered an opportunity to attend a CVW at the Naval Academy. I'll be there later this week. But, I know we get the chance to work out with the midshipmen on Saturday morning and I'm worried I'm going to fail and that will go badly on my record. When my dad was doing the visits, he said he just watched - I know that's an option, but I think that would make me look lazy.... so anyway, my question is, what kind of workout do they usually do on Saturday mornings? Do I need to worry about running five miles at a 7:00 pace? I just don't know what to expect and I want to know what I'm in for.

They may or may not have Saturday morning PT. They probably will as they are prepping for Sea Trails. They won't be running 5 miles at 7 minute pace. If you don't want to participate then don't. To be honest, no one will really care one way or another.

When I was there they gave us an option to participate or not. I was the only drag that opted to participate (I was also the only girl with the company too). For the workout we went swimming and there were levels of ability- I would assume that running would be the same or similar.

My plebe son says they are doing prep for Sea Trials on Saturday mornings. So look up some info on what they do during Sea Trials to know what might be on tap this Saturday. Many Saturdays, if the weather isn't great, they go to the pool. But if the weather is nice, be ready to run and/or do some sort of outdoor workout. Don't worry about running a 7-minute mile over 5 miles, however. There are different running groups for different levels of ability, so if you are in relatively decent shape, you will probably find a comfortable pace in one of those groups.

My DD was disappointed, as she wanted to work out with them, but her visit there was no opportunity for it. I'm sure you will be fine either way. Just enjoy the experience.

FWIW, when I went for a CVW, I didn't get a chance to work out with anyone. I forget what happened I just remember my plebe telling me I couldn't come with her for some reason (they were doing wrestling). Another girl I spoke to that went to a CVW asked her plebe if instead of working out she could hang out with a different plebe and do an activity that interested her more.

But if you do end up working out, don't worry about looking bad, no one is going to judge you or anything.

Please don't worry. They have you there to see if the Naval Academy is a good fit for you. They won't be rating you. Relax and use your visit to see if it's what works for you.

So just a heads up. I went to a CVW last year and it was pretty bad. My plebe was a hockey player so she wasnt even there the first day. I stayed in a different roon each night. One night my plebe didn't even bother getting me a ticket to the play that all plebes had to go to so i ended up staying in bancroft for 5 hours with the other drags. Then on Saturday morning, my plebe didnt wake up early enough for the voluntary workout so I couldn't get to experience it. So, what does or does not happen, you wont really know so dont worry about it.
