CVW

My son was surprised as well at how many "drags" he spoke to who were NOT serious candidates - who hadn't completed much of their application or who weren't close to passing the CFA, etc. Just seemed strange since I thought being chosen for a CVW was fairly selective!

That was the biggest surprise for us. But I think we've realized the intent of CVW may be more to give the attendees the interest to complete & pursue, etc.

My 200 figure came from one of the comments admissions made in the briefing something to the effect 200 out of 3000 invites. And a rough count by tens of those in line to check in seemed to match. It was a pretty big crowd of kids for sure!

All that said, it was a fun weekend and greatly appreciate the chance to attend!

To the candidates who still may be following this thread - use your head and dress and behave appropriately. While some of you already may have your LOA or appointment in hand, many of you still may be in the chase. As already noted earlier in this thread, the midshipmen hosts (and others you may encounter) do evaluate you and a bad evaluation could be your undoing.

While many of the CVWs are used to get ardent candidates to the academy, in some cases Admissions may be prospecting for some hot prospects who haven't shown much interest.

An interesting observation from a colleague who had one son go to USMA and another son go to an Ivy League school: the service academies strictly are undergraduate schools and all the facilities are for the cadets and midshipmen. At a school offering degrees on several levels the undergraduate program may not enjoy the same degree of attention from the high powered profs or enjoy the degree of access to libraries, etc. Makes sense.
