I am going to the Candidate Visit Weekend this Thursday and have a quick question: Does anyone know if they provide dinner the first night or should I come having already eaten? Any other advice for the CVW would be much appreciated too. Thanks!!!

Dinner won't be provided but they could provide a little bit of food like chicken fingers and chips with salsa (at least when I went). Just have dinner in advance in case they don't. For other advice, just take in as much as possible, ask around different mids of all classes (i.e. 1/c, etc) about academy life and don't let the cynical mids there get to you (there are some). Have fun!

invite for cvw

If an application is complete, is it a possible bad sign that an invitation to a cvw has not been sent? How/when are these issued?

Before you get there...

May I suggest the you have your driver stop by at Mike’s Crab House an excellent place to eat.:thumb:

Another13mom, I don't know when they send out CVW invitations but my S's application wasn't complete when he received his invitation. I read somewhere that if you're not invited, you can call them and ask if you can come for a visit. It wouldn't hurt to ask.

True statement. I myself requested one through my CGO and they were very enthusiastic about it, so you can definately call and request one.

Someone one ( a mid) on one of the other boards mentioned bringing a jacket and tie to the CWV for some sort of reception. I did not see anything like that in the invite letter--it said "attire for the weekend will be tasteful, comfortable casual clothes work out gear and swim wear." Anyone know anything about the more formal attire suggestion?

Our son did not need anything more formal. Couldnt hurt to take it, I guess. Our S only needed casual clothes to wear to classes and workout gear to run in. That's it.

please don't, that would be awkward and it could get the plebe in trouble in their company.

I'd keep it comfortable because unless things have changed in 19 years you are going to be chopping through Bancroft right behind your plebe all weekend long.

Go Navy, sir!

Wear whatever you feel comfortable in; most of the candidates that were walking around today were in jeans and polos. (seeing civies in the classroom...bizzare:smile:) Being right on the Severn River and the Chesapeake it can be very windy which makes it seem even colder than it really is, so bring warm clothes. Also, make sure you bring warm clothes to workout in. Though you won't be required to participate in SMT (Saturday morning training) you will probably be allowed to, depending on what training is scheduled.

Most importantly: Have fun, ask questions and Semper Gumby!
GO NAVY, BEAT ARMY!!!

Things must have changed since you've been here because all of the Plebes I've seen with drags have been walking, not chopping. They still have to stay in the center of the p-way and square corners, but having a drag is basically like getting younster privileges. Most plebes (in my company at least) have been getting media and everything...

CVW was amazing! Completely different from Summer Seminar and really gave us a chance to see what life will be like at the Academy. I recommend that if you are able to go, go :).
Respectfully,

No you don't need an LOA to request a CVW. It might be too late to sign up for the CVW in November, it doesn't hurt to ask. There will also be a CVW next semester that you would definately have time to sign up for. If you are able to go then you should go because it truly is a great experience. It definately proved to me that this is the place for me. Hopefully it does that for you too.

Good luck.

USNA CVW April 23-24-25, 2009

My son is going to CVW on Thursday, April 23rd. (He has already sent his acceptance to USNA for Class 2013 btw:thumb:) . I was wondering for those of you who have already attended a CVW if you have any advice regarding what to wear (polo shirt and dockers?) or what to bring (athletic clothing?). Any suggestions or advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I wore kakhis and nice-ish shoes with a button up shirt, polo shirt would be fine too. Some kids were in jeans but the majority were dressed up a little. no tie and no blazer tho. have him bring some sweatpants and a sweatshirt, it gets coooold in brancroft hall at night especially with the cot set up right next to the window!
