Just got an email with an invitation to either October 26-28 or November 2-4 candidate visit weekends.

How does admissions decide who to invite? Do they just send it to all candidates, or just to ones who they think are competitive for admission? I don’t want to overthink it.

Also, would going/not going affect my chances of an appointment?

Don’t overthink it. Traditionally USNA invites those they anticipate to be competitive. There are tons of examples of candidates who had CVWs who got in and those who didn’t and the reverse.

Honestly don’t focus on that part. It’s not worth admissions points. But also don’t be a bad guest. Trust me a candidate who runs their mouth or does something stupid... it would be noted. This is your chance to see, live, sleep, eat and follow a Mid. Evaluate if you can see yourself succeeding and living this life. Ask questions of Plebes and upper classe. Each year at USNA your views change as you grow, mature, understand USNA and the Navy more and more. Plebes are generally not enjoying life all that much right now. Talk to upper class with majors, sports, ECAs you are interested in. Talk to Plebes about Plebe summer, adapting to USNA life, why they are there.

Just wondering- did you attend NASS? How complete is your application?

Thank you. On the other hand, if I’m not able to make it because of exams both weeks, would it count against me to not attend?

I would love to, but I’m trying to minimize distractions from school to maintain good grades.

It will not hurt you to not attend. You can request for it to be pushed to the spring. Honestly, if you didn’t attend NASS, I would definitely recommend you go. Getting exposed to what’s inside Mother B is important. You can make up exams when you get back or plan ahead and take them before. Consider it part of the learning curve to attend a SA and proper planning. Your future is important and making a decision like attending a SA is huge.

I got that email as well. My only reservation is that I'd miss a chemistry quiz if I went which I couldn't make up. Quizzes are worth only a small percentage of my grade but there's a chance it could end up being the difference between an A and an A-, and I know Admissions is looking for excellence in chemistry courses, especially for reapplicants such as myself. Right now I'm leaning toward attending, and unless you have some conflict or issues with travel I see no reason not to. Ostensibly it has no bearing on how your application is viewed, but I feel like going would display your interest which can't hurt.

I would ask about the Chem quiz again, and why. All of DS' teachers (and college professors) were accomodating under special circumstance.

DS had a blast at CVW, totally worth it.
