What’s up guys,
I just got an invite for a CVW, just wondering, from more experienced people, if that’s typically a good sign. All that’s left for my application is my BGO Interview, English evaluation, and Cong. Nomination.
Thank you

It isn’t necessarily a good sign. It’s a marketing tool for USNA. Put your best package in - and go to CVW if you have any questions about going there.

My son went and loved it.

Search CVW, you will see other discussion about the event.

It’s an opportunity to visit. But it doesn’t mean they are ‘recruiting’ you. Additionally, you won’t be ‘dinged’ for not attending.

Neither of mine went. They attended NASS and were all in after that. Didn’t need a CVW.

Hello all! I had also signed up for the CVW and was wondering what I should pack for the visit?

My son went and he loved it, it was good for him to see what life would be like.

DS just came back from CVW and he really liked it. He did his first CFA there and was told the result would be posted on his application portal in a couple of weeks.

He is also scheduled to do CFA at school this week.

Here is my question. If both results are submitted --- which one will be the final --- the best score or the last score (based CFA test date) ? Also -- what will be shown on the portal --- ie -- if it indicates "pass" or "fail" ?

Overall he is doing okay but he is really bad at basketball -- is there a minimum distance as single event requirement ?

It will be shown as “qualified” on the portal and the best score out of all submitted would be selected.

From 2023 BGO Handbook: "The candidate should strive to do their best in each event. Instructions and additional information for the CFA can be found at www.usna.edu/Admissions/cfainstructions.htm. Candidates wishing to retake the CFA should request that their RAC reset the link in CIS for the test."

Just because a Candidate requests a reset, it may not be granted.

1. Contact your Regional Admissions Counselor to request that the CFA link be "reset".
2. A RAC may not reset the "CFA link" if your old score is a pass and/or the new score is not substantially better (one RAC has told me that he sometimes declines granting a reset).
3. If the CFA link is reset, follow the CFA process.

If your admissions package has already gone before the Admissions Board (you won't know that), it's unlikely a reset will be permitted.

CFA scores are not "super scored" like the SAT/ACT, and a slightly higher score may not be granted a reset. At any rate, if you are concerned with your CFA score, talk to your Admissions Counselor for advice on that issue.

As a BGO would you know if the package for candidate has been reviewed by the board?

BGOs can tell if it’s been reviewed. We are also not authorized to disclose that. We can tell if a candidate is qualified and that is about it. The review is one thing. If qualified, it goes to the next step and will sit until a decision is made. I have seen Sept reviews and the candidate not get word until April. BGOs also have zero visibility after a qualified or not qualified is given. Most appointments are given out between Jan and March.

FYI, the basketball throw has zero to do with playing basketball. It’s a measure of core strength. He needs to work on his technique (search videos) and will most likely improve (if he was throwing it he would toss a basketball in a game).

Thanks for the suggestion. For now he needs to get "qualified" --as for better score, he has a few months to improve.
