CVW

My d is there this weekend, I spoke her briefly and shes loving it. Right up her alley.Still waiting for mail.

Hang in there my sons didn't come until late still plenty of news ahead for many~:thumb:

In November I went on an official recruiting visit for swimming to the Academy and loved it. I have also been offered the opportunity to go on a CVW. Is the CVW like a recruiting trip? Should i go on the CVW or should i leave the spot open for someone else who has not visited. I have a LOA + a nom so im just waiting on the blue folder, and i am 100% sure i am going to the academy. Any thoughts would be a great help. Thanks.

You should go because I think they a have plenty of spots open and if someone else really wanted to go they would have sent it in by now so don't worry about that!!

Son has been told otherwise by the admissions office - they said that he was a good candidate, has noms to USMA and USNA, and they're trying to fit him into a CVW, but that with the number of applications this year there are far more requests than there are spots. That said, I don't know whether the recruiting visit is different from the CVW; perhps others can weigh in.

Yes. CVW is for current candidates only.

Not trying to be difficult because when I read this question, I would have given the same answer. However, we're out here right now - my son just finished up CVW this weekend (and then we stayed for an awesome Army Navy basketball game at which I mortified my son by wearing my Army apparel  )!

However, during the parents' briefings we met several parents who were there with juniors (prospective 2015) and my son said he met some juniors as well. I asked one how/why their son got selected and they said they didn't know - they were just contacted about it! Seems very strange to me since I see many people on these boards saying they can't get in as a prospective 2014 member!

CVW Parents info

Unfortunately I wasn't able to accompany my daughter to CVW this weekend (work, work, work). I was wondering if someone could fill me in on what information I missed out on? What information was passed along to parents during the parents part of CVW. Thanks in advance.

I doubt you missed anything that you don't know if you read these forums at all. Nice to see it all in person, but most of the Q&A's were much more at the basic level - "When is I day?" "Can my son bring a car?" "When will we be able to see him first?" "How much time off do they get?" You get the idea. Off the top of my head I can't think of anything they told us that I haven't seen before here. If you have any specific questions, let me know and I can try to answer or ask my son if he found out anything about them! And no, they didn't tell us when PPW was!

Learned a few things at CVW

1) Mid that my son dragged said the Supt. told the brigade that the Class of 2014 will be the smartest they had at USNA. I am assuming he means based on test scores, GPA

2) Heard admissions admit there is a competitive alternate pool (for those who don't get the primary MOC nom, but are very competitive)

3) Met with parents who talked alot about the sponsor family program, which sounds really great.

4) Learned Class of 2013 number breakdown (don't think I have seen it before):

Target Class size - 1248
Applicants - 15,342
Applicants with a nom - 4388
Applicants fully qualified - 2524
Appointment offered - 1464
Admitted - 1251

Yeah, I picked up a class profile for 2013 at the visitor's center too, which I also didn't think I'd seen before. Also heard they said 18,000 applications started so far?
