CWV

I was glad to hear that some of this stuff goes on!! I wanted to hear that some of these kids are normal......this makes me alittle more at ease if my daughter gets in!

I think I mentioned this here a while back. During my daughter's CVW back in October, she and her mids dressed in camouflage and went about a spirit mission. They went somewhere on campus, made and hung some "spirit" banners. They all then snuck off campus and went to Denny's for coffee... at 2:00am. Knowing that it was illegal to sneak onto a military installation, they showed their ID's to get back on the yard. My daughter had to use her drivers license. For some reason, the security guard at the gate did not question this. Imagine my surprise when I received a text from my daughter at 3am stating she just got back to Bancroft Hall. They all posted photos on Facebook... it looks hilarious.

Oh my, listening to music and playing video games on the sly, what is the world coming too?

As all of the previous posters have more eloquently stated, these kids (plebes) need some way to blow off steam. They are restricted to the yard 6days a week, the right to listen to music or use media is an earned privileged and when the rest of the east coast was snowed in on and off for the last few weeks, the plebes (at least in my daughters company) were snowed in without media privileges.

I think having to do without media may be one of the harder things this generation has to adjust to when attending USNA. They have grown up with TVs, computers, cell phones, etc. and it is ingrained into their daily lives.

Ditto!!!! thanks GoNavyMom!! singaporemom if just trying to get away from little things such as sneaking a listen to some music might disappoint your son, then he'd be in for a treat..

That's great! :thumb: I've been wondering how the weekend went for those going to CVW. RascalFlatts, did you make it OK?

Yes PositiveThinking I did make it! I was a little late but didn't miss much. We ended up taking the later flight out of Milwaukee and it worked out fine! Just got back today because I was visiting some relatives so wasn't able to get on sooner. This CVW has strengthened my want to go to the Naval Academy and I am truly thankful I was able to actually live with a plebe for a few days. I am still very excited to be a part of the class of 2014 but this trip has made me realize a little more the hardwork these mids put in. However this was great to see because who would want to graduate from a service academy (all 5 Luigi :thumb:) without putting in hardwork? Altogether it was a great experience and can't wait to be a part of the class of 2014!

haha:smile: son has spent many summers in foreign lands or trekking for months on end with no media, I think he'll survive. I don't think I was able to express myself properly during this thread, so I'll bow out, graciously....:thumb:

didn't mean to employ that your son would not survive this place with or without media jus don't be disappointed as this place has its ups and its downs..not always ups

Before people get all excited about rules breaking regarding "media" (music, etc.), keep in mind that Plebes who act as hosts are granted lots of privileges that would normally be rule-breaking. Having permission to use media is one of those, or at least it was for my Mid. They also don't have to "chop," do "chow calls," or various other things while "dragging" a candidate. They will most certainly "share" a candidate with their classmates who are not technically sponsors. :shake:

Also, if any of you have enjoyed youtube videos of "carrier landings," please remember that awful activities of that type are also against the USNA rules. I am known as being too straight and narrow, and I say: lighten up, already.

Goodness, mids get away with what they can its what we do. 12 months of force no "media" is tough and in no way realistic, but that doesn't mean any of us aren't honorable or what not we do what we need to do to survive on a day to day basis. Most accounts aren't made up and that's the truth. The school is still based on honor and all and having a little bit of media will not hurt anyone
