i am posting here in hope of some advice.
DS received an appointment to USMA in February 2018.
He took a college level Calcukus class and earned a D in it. He took the class as an elective to impress West Point. By the time he realized he was in over his head the time frame for withdraw and switch to another class was over. He has stuck it out, sought tutoriing and earned a D.
His other grades are As& Bs, SAT & ACT are great, has service hours, has taken honors courses etc.

Will USMA recind his appointment due to this low grade?

Spoke to his recruiting officer and they said it could be. He brought the grade up from an F. Any experience with this? Thanks in advance.

Doubtful they will rescind for a single D.

Has your DS already sent in his final 8th semester transcripts (they will show posted on his portal when they have received them)? Ours are already posted in green. If yours are as well I would assume that they are not an issue.

BTW, there is nothing to do about it at this point so I wouldn't worry about it. Worry about what you can control and getting ready to attend. Cross the bridges you have to cross when you come upon them, not before.

What do you mean by "recruiting officer"? If that's the RC or another admissions officer, take it seriously. If it's an FFR or someone else outside of admissions, it's really just a guess.

My opinion: Four weeks before R-Day unlikely to get rescinded for one low grade in a college level class.

The experience may provide a lesson when it comes time for validation and advanced placement choices. A USMA course will likely be more rigorous than a local college level course - it certainly won't be less rigorous.

Might be wise to hop over to Khan Academy to do some further study in Calculus when he can find time. It's a great resource for many subjects.
