Dang couldn't get an appointment.

How do u know ur son is competing on the national pool? I think this might be the case with me because i have not received anything yet either

If you are triple qualified and received a Congressional nomination and did not "win" your district or Senator's slate then you automatically compete in the national pool.

The Academies continue to offer appointments until the class is filled.

Sounds like another ad for Greystone.

You receive both training essential for the service academies and you receive college credit. You can even transfer credit to the service academies for certain courses. In matter of fact, you take classes hand in hand to that of first years at the service academies.

Not true.

If you got a reject letter from USNA (are not wait-listed), then you aren't going to get an appointment this year. The fact you were tripled Q'ed with a nom suggests you had a strong packet. But competition was fierce this year and, every year, some folks in your position don't get appointments.

If you want to reapply next year, take the advice above and contact CGO to find out where your packet could be improved. Your BGO can make some educated guesses but we are not told why candidates don't get appointments. Thus, CGO is your best bet. They are pretty swamped right now, so I suggest holding off until late May or June to contact them.

You do NOT need to go to a special prep school or otherwise. You do need to take college-level courses that mimic as much as possible what you would take as a plebe and do well in those courses. And keep up with sports and leadership.

fyi

All candidates will receive correspondence from the academy - even if they didn't secure a nomination.

This may be true of USNA, however...it is not true of USAFA. My S was a candidate for USAFA, fully qualified with medical waiver granted (initiated by USAFA)...he will receive no correspondence at all. USAFA admissions said: "we had so many applicants that those who did not get nomination will not hear from us"...very unfair...not even a "thanks for completing the application process and jumping through every hoop better luck next time letter" That is why I posted that those still waiting should check with USAFA. Did not get that impression from USNA. Got TWE from USCGA. When he withdrew application (with LoA) to USMMA, received very nice: "are you sure you want to withdraw your application, and if so, thank you for considering USMMA and best of luck in your future" letter.:thumb:

pmlutton - that is unbelievable. So you are sayig that your son fully completed the USAFA application, was granted a medical waiver and never got a letter at all? Your son called, I gather.

goodness - that is certainly out of the ordinary. I have never heard of a kid applying to any school and not getting any correspondence.
I find the excuse that they received too many application a non-excuse.
But what can you do? I guess next year everyone will be telling AFA applicants to keep calling - since they won't know anything unless they call.
If they can't get a kid's name into a date base and spit out a form letter, it makes you wonder if there are piles of applications sitting around, unread.

I agree with the above. my kid was triple Q'd, 3noms, top of his graduating class, etc. He spoke with his admissions officer, got the info he needed, and has plans to reapply--he has already completed the preliminary application. He also is keeping his BGO informed of his plans and getting some good BGO advice.
You should contact USNA admissions and get all of the info you can. Keep your BGO informed of your plans and solicit their advice. You will have to complete a preliminary candidate application to begin your reapplication process. Go to the usna admissions page ( you already know this). Stay in shape- you will have to complete the CFA again but your Dodmerb is good for 2 years.
We know how it feels, chin up, and press on. :)
