Hello all! Thank you for reading my post! My question is about dating/fraternizing at West Point. Last year my boyfriend and I applied to USMA, he made it in and I did not. I am now at a University and am reapplying because I really want to be at West Point. My boyfriend and I are very much still together and we were just talking about what would happen if I did get an appointment. We both know that Plebes are only allowed to date Plebes, but is there an exception for prior relationships since I would become a Plebe and he would become a Yearling? If not, do you have any suggestions on what we should do? Thank you!

Apparently prior relationships can be "declared" and are allowed. (I'm aware of some where this has occurred).

From memory I believe it was coordinated through your TAC officer.

I'll let others comment on how well it works, if it's a good idea, or if you'll even have time!

He will have to fill out the paperwork with approval from both your TAC officers. They pretty much always approve them but give you a little guidance on what is and is not acceptable.

You will also have to be discrete and professional in your relationship when in public at West Point (this extends to West Point functions outside of West Point or anytime in uniform).

You have to do this even if it is a same gender friendship. My son's good friend did a year at prep, so was a year behind him. He had to fill out the paperwork so it would be ok for the friend as a plebe to spend time with my son and vice versa.
