Abbreviations for "dear daughter" or "dear son". There is a stickie with abbreviations/acronyms at the top of the forum.

They don't mean anything in regards to the scholarship. They also don't mean anything in regards to the military.

@SunnyCal I have found so much useful information on these forums and sage advice from alumnus and moderators I certainly wouldn't discount the acronym as useless or stupid. Quite the opposite.

True, I have seen and used them for many years now in various settings. It’s always up to the poster whether to use or not. No need to call the poor little abbreviations names and cast shade upon them, and by extension, those who use them. They are a comms tool, available to be used or not.

Of course not. I would. Of course, due to gender inequality, it is harder with "daughter".

It is the language and nomenclature of the Military. Which is what brings most of us here. "Stupid?" Short-sided approach. Probably best to assimilate to one's working and living environment. No offense intended though, OK?

Anybody who goes to A&M Corps is going to be introduced to an entire new vocabulary - so, between that, the acronyms and the swearing the military definitely provides a lot of interesting changes to the "verbal communication skills" on an individual. I'm not sure I've ever recovered.
