Deadline is finally here

Hi Madzmom.... D/d applied to 4 schools and has heard back from 2, both accepted. We filled out the Fafsa on the first day it opened. And she's been offered a sizable merit scholarship at one of the 2 schools so far. But all she wants is USNA, or NAPS, or being a street sweeper in Annapolis! LOL The waiting makes me nervous because of all of the roommate matching and financial aid office emails I am getting. I hope she doesn't miss good opportunities while waiting for one that may never come. But it's her future, her life, and her choice. I'm very patriotic and a registered republican but far too arty and bohemian to have ever chosen the Academy for myself or one of my children. She loves it though. We're gearing up for another trip up there for the Army Navy doubleheader basketball game - our fourth trip in under a year! I believe I grew a great kid with an awesome head on her shoulders so I'm going to continue to support her by following her lead.

It will all be okay in the end... so if it isn't okay then it's not the end! Hugs.
 
This whole wild ride only started a year ago with DD's NASS application. We have a history of military service with great grandfather, grandfather and uncle but nothing recently and no SA's ever. She drank the kool-aid hard at NASS, would never even consider another academy :) She has some excellent plans B-F but there's still something about Annapolis... Nomination secured and now we're all waiting and praying with her.

Same here. My DS had a first choice of the USAFA for years. Then, he attended a Cross Country Running Camp at the USNA in the summer and then attended CVW early in the fall. Both those visits vaulted the USNA to the top of his list (plus we live about an hour away). Unfortunately, unless a miracle happens, looks like the USNA appointment won't occur. He was triple nominated, but all to the USAFA (which he is still totally fine with). He is totally open to NAPS too should he not get an appointment to the USAFA, USCGA, or USNA. Hoping to hear something soon. Best of luck to all those awaiting an answer....

Wow, this sounds almost exactly like my DD's journey. Her uncle is a USNA grad, but other than that your story of family military service parallels my DD. DD started her journey Jan 2016 applying to NASS, attended, and loved it. Good Luck !

Yeah, these kids are all the cream of the crop and not used to hearing "no" when they try for something but so much of the process is out of their hands, either geographically or medically or whatever. My daughter's school has no history or this so we've had to lead the counselors through the process by doing our own research (mostly here, thanks all!) and just pushing through. We are still praying for an appointment but I hope all of these kids know that there are many paths to success and they will all end up where God wants them with amazing opportunities.
 
i heard for college students however that they dont even get considered until February.

Assume you mean for USNA purposes. USNA doesn't consider college students until first semester grades are in -- that tends to be late January so it is true that college students aren't evaluated until February, or very close to it.

My son's application was complete and filed in early September and he just got his LOA! Been such a stressful few months and am I glad it's over! Good luck to all!

I am 2nd time candidate now in college. Since they have my college Fall Quarter grades now, does that mean they will start reviewing my application?

DD fell in love with USNA on a school trip in 8th grade. We are not a military family. My dad was a Seabee in the Navy for about 18 months and that is it. She can't give you an exact reason why she wants to go there but she says she feels a pull to be a Mid. So we have supported her as much as we can. She has applied to 12 other schools and 3 so far have accepted her. She had everything in by October for NA and received the nomination in December. Our area has not had a student at USNA in several years or even had any apply. There is only one other young lady at her school waiting to hear back too. We hope she will hear something soon but if she is not fortunate to get in, she got farther than most students. And we are still very proud of her.

Yes, exactly. We keep telling our DD that each experience here; from putting herself out there to be judged both academically and physically, to interviewing in front of 3 panels of adults, having a Marine officer come to her school to interview her. Each of these will not be wasted if she does not make it to the Academy, they are all great life experiences that will serve her (and them all) well. (but we're still praying hard for an appointment. :)
