Hello! I recently was declined an AROTC 2019-2020 scholarship from the third board.

My first choice school is The Citadel and is basically my only choice. I knew I wasnt probably going to get the 4yr but had hopes of a 3yr. I will be attending The Citadel this upcoming fall 2019 and want a military school but also want to graduate as a officer. I realize that myself and parents are going to have to pay some tuition, and that being out of state is around $55,000 a year.

Is there anyway I can still get a scholarship while I attend The Citadel as a knob? If not, I really need to think of a change of plans because im very set on becoming a officer when graduating from The Citadel.

Thanks :) Im thankful for any guidance or help.

Wait, if I am reading your title post correctly, it implies that you turned down a scholarship that was given to you. If you want to be an officer, then why did you decline the offer? Confused...

Navyman...You might want to talk to the Army ROTC enrollment officer at the Citadel about Campus Based scholarships. You can earn a scholarship, and you can earn a commission and serve as an officer even without a scholarship. And when you talk to the Army ROTC enrollment officer you might want to keep it on the down low that your user name on the service academy forum is Navyman.

Sorry. I meant I was not awarded one! My fault.

Sounds like the scholarship was “declined”, just worded it a little weird.

Should I call? Or wait to the fall and find someone on campus. And yes I realize that, anyway I can change my user? lol

First off rack that chin in nut! Kidding. Congrats on choosing the Citadel.

You absolutely can earn a scholarship BUT competition is stiff. A couple things

1. DO NOT GET AN ALCOHOL VIOLATION. You will be done, period.
2. Knuckle down and get good grades. Dean's List at least Gold Stars is better these are 3.2 and 3.7 respectively.
3. Rock out on your Citadel and Army PFT.
4. Participate fully in the ROTC unit - everything from FTX to picking up trash in the football stadium and oh dark thirty Sunday mornings.
5. Stay off the quad your SCCC performance does does impact you standing as ROTC cadet.
6. DO NOT GET AN ALCOHOL VIOLATION. You will be done, period.
7. Knuckle down and get great grades. Dean's List at very least Gold Stars. Is better these are 3.2 and 3.7 respectively.

I repeated those last two on purpose.

There are other scholarships available apply for them all.

Good luck. Go Dogs! Beat VMI! LOUDER! NUT LOUDER!

There is also a Navy Unit on campus - just say'n ...

Could I try for both while attending The Citadel? And when you talk about participate in ROTC things how can I do that when I am not part of a unit?

Sounds good. Im not familar with SCCC, but I guess this is behavior issues and getting in trouble? And what is the max GPA at the citadel? 4.0 or 4.5?

SCCC = South Carolina Corps of Cadets

GPA at Citadel is calculated on the traditional 4.0 scale with "forgivable F's"

You will take ROTC, NROTC or AFROTC courses. Some of the ROTC activities are are optional others are mandatory.

It's unlikely you would get a Navy scholarship while in the Army unit. It is possible to switch from one unit to another. Back in the day the Army was famous or infamous for poaching cadets from the other units with contracts around Junior year. I'm not sure if this is still the case or not .

I thought I was only taking these courses if I had a scholarship or was contracted, but I am neither. You mean after I obtain a scholarship? A little confused sorry.

Everyone takes ROTC courses scholarship, contract or nothing it's one of the things about being a Senior Military College - you ABSOLUTLEY MUST be a rock star in your ROTC class if you want a scholarship

Sounds good. So keep grades up and do good on the PFT? When do the PFT take place?

Should I call? Or wait to the fall and find someone on campus.
Why in the world would you wait? More knowledge earlier is better. Who knows? If you wait you might miss an opportunity. Or if you're told that no scholarships will be available until xx/yy/zz then you might want to change your college plans. But if you want to wait until you get there in the fall, I suppose that might work in some strange way if you're lucky.
