Declutter or save for cadet

I have an ongoing giveaway box. I add to it as I walk through the house and rooms. Did a serious purge in DS room. To be honest, he won't live here again, just come to visit. So I turned it into my new home office and started my new remote job on June 1. Donated his bed and minor furniture.

Put things that I think he may want in totes for him to sort at a later date. The likelihood of him needing or wanting mementos immediately upon commissioning is small. Until he gets somewhat settled (as long as the needs of the Navy deem him 'settled', lol), they can stay in a closet. They don't take up much space.

Shipping furniture cross country, or hauling it isn't economical. There is so much access to used stuff and sale prices that it makes more sense for him to go that way.

Now, his guitars are a whole other animal. He will need a shipping container for those! That and his antique car, I wouldn't trust it to cross the country under its own power, it's older than me!

That's powerful to say out loud. I know it deep in my heart that my two boys are just visitors now, but I still haven't come to terms with it.
It isn’t something I will likely ever fully be comfortable with. But I’m proud of my kids and their chosen paths. That makes up for it, and makes the visits so much more precious.

My DD just finished her first year at CGA. Last month she called us from her summer assignment in OR and said "Straight up: I am never living anywhere without mountains again, so just know now that I'm only going to be visiting from here on out. This is amazing." You kind of know, but then suddenly you know. Well at least we'll have good vacation spots to look forward to.

So Oregon coast Yes! Minnesota No! This kind of it home also for me. My girl is in BCT at the USAFA right now and on our call she explained how much more she loved the area as opposed to eastern NC. And probably would not be coming home again to live. And she was excited . I was excited for her but for some reason it hurt. Geez! What is wrong with us:)

I've known forever that our oldest two would go away for awhile and eventually come home, but that the third was born to fly. She was never going to live here forever, so this was good news in a way, confirming that she had found her people. Happy for her. (God knows what the fourth is going to do. That one may never move out...)

Jeez, this is getting deep. When I started this thread I was just trying to figure out whether I should keep the old coffee table in the basement.:)
What's your venmo for the therapy I owe you. ;-)

Our third is 16 going on 26. As I tell people she looks like a kitten but she will rip your heart out. She has her bags already packed. If she was a Navy plane she would be on the flight deck on alert status waiting to take off.

Funny thing is I worry about her the least.

Our CG DH graduated last year and had his home of record move this past Feb. He had come home in Oct and we labeled all the stuff he wanted... Of course i found a few tubs later on that we missed. The movers came, packed all up and sent it to him. What is left has gone in the garage sale, got donated or went in the trash. Now i have to figure out how to get the stuff we missed to him.. Might have to u haul it one way for a visit...
