Great information. Thank you so much!We were at the USCGA last week and we were told that they would not start to review deferred applicants until the end of February - early March.
On Bears Den - under application click decision available and there is a letter explaining that the application is deferred. How did you find out that you were deferred? Email, letter? Just confirming. Thanks in advance.
Last year my DS was deferred and didn’t hear anything until second week of March. His coach told them that deferred applicants are reviewed in later rounds of RA. No news is good news, focus on what you can control, DODMerb, plan B, etc…Hi all. Were any deferred applicants scheduled for review? I haven't gotten any correspondance regarding review scheduling so i figured all deferred applicants were still in the dark.
Quick question, was your DS a recruited athlete? You mentioned coach and my son is a recruited athlete and just curious the process. Yes. For basketball, currently at NAPSQuick question, was your DS a recruited athlete? You mentioned coach and my son is a recruited athlete and just curious the process. Thanks for any insight you can provide.
Thank you for the response. Was he a Blue Chip athlete? My son is a Blue Chip athlete and once he committed to play for AF, he stopped talking to other coaches and told them he committed to AF. He hasn’t received his acceptance yet and I’m just nervous because he doesn’t have a back up plan and rosters are filling up. Thank you again.Yes. For basketball, currently at NAPS
CGA is D3 so they don't have blue chip athletes and being a recruited athlete is not a guarantee of appointment. I have seen lots of questions/comments about recruited/blue chip athletes on the AF/USNA/WestPoint forums so I'm sure you can find a discussion about it there. All I do know is that being a service academy recruited athlete is not quite the same as a civilian D1 school. If your son has an LOA and has met all the requirements it should just be a waiting game to get his appointment.Thank you for the response. Was he a Blue Chip athlete? Thanks, I posted in the AF forum but I haven’t received any feedback from a Blue Chip athlete and was wondering what the process was. He doesn’t have a LOA. He just has an email from the coach offering him a spot and classifying him as a Blue Chip athlete with the athletic director. He does have his 3 Qs and nomination, but it worries me that he doesn’t have a guarantee and no back up plan. How does NAPS work for CGA or has he just chosen USNA. I know there's CGAS but I seen the peopel saying NAPS to CGA. Is it the same?Yes. For basketball, currently at NAPS
VaCadetmom is correct, CGA is D3 so a different process somewhat. With Service academies There are never any guarantees. My DS needed a medical waiver and didn’t receive that until late May which is past the normal school commitment timeline. What he did was spoke with Plan B coach and committed there with the understanding that if everything fell in line with CGA that was his first choice and would be attending CGA. Plan B coach wasn’t happy but was understanding. We were also lucky that the housing deposit was only couple hundred dollars so didn’t lose out on a lot of money. Does your DS have any other scholarship offers? If not then not as big of an issue. I do know that athletes can decommit from any offer legally to attend a service academy. How honest you want to be with other coaches is up to you. My son chose the 100% honest approach, it was a tough conversation but he felt better in the long run. Thanks, I posted in the AF forum but I haven’t received any feedback from a Blue Chip athlete and was wondering what the process was. Thank you for your response and insight. My son was talking to several D1 coaches, but once he got the offer from AF, he told them he had committed to play for AF and stopped communication. He was also talking to West Point (they told him they were getting ready to offer him a spot, but he had already committed to play for AF and didn’t entertain the thought). My son is definitely a man of his word and won’t reach out to other schools, and I’m not even sure what he would tell them at this point.VaCadetmom is correct, CGA is D3 so a different process somewhat.
