Deferred from EA at CGA... next steps?

How important is a visit to the CGA to interview with Admissions Officers in person?

An interview with an Admissions Officer at the Academy, or an interview with an AAP in your hometown (or close to it) provides the same thing - a written interview evaluation that is submitted to the CCEB. One is neither better nor worse than the other.

I wouldn't recommend it

do you think the same goes for nominations? I was nominated to USNA, is it worth letting the academy know this?

My DS mentioned his USAFA nomination to the coach at USCGA thiking it would show that he was a desirable candidate for a SA. I'm not convinced it did that. He was deferred from EA1 and in subsequent conversations the coach mentioned that DS needed to decide where his priorities were. If you still want to submit it, I'd be sure admissions knows unequivocally that USCGA is your first choice.

Luigi, DS was interviewed by a Cadet during his Cadet for a Day visit. Should he still try to be interviewed by an AAP?

Thanks so much for the info

I think an interview report from an Academy Admissions Partner (AAP) may be useful as the Cadre Cadet will have a different "look" at the applicant because of age, setting, and expectations. Having both on file may give admissions a well-rounded picture.

I want to submit my updates to the academy ASAP but I'm not exactly sure how to do so. I've called them multiple times but they never pick up and never respond to my voicemails.

So, how do I submit my updates? I logged in online but there are no new forms to print out or anything. Did everyone else just send a letter listing their updates?

Thanks

We submitted updates in the mail because we also couldn't see how to do it online. Thanks for the responses regarding interviews!

Thank you!

Thank you for the advice, I will let my son know!

I received a deferral letter today also. I still am not clear on whether or not I should submit a congressional nomination and appointment that I received to USMMA as an award along with my other updates. The USCGA is unequivocally my first choice and I do not want the Admissions department to think differently. I just thought a congressional nomination was a noteworthy award.
Any advice Luigi, Objee, or anyone else with experience in this area?

Submit them, they will not hurt. They will want to know about the appointment to KP much more than they care about a nomination.

I wrote a letter to LT Bladen about my recent accomplishments as an update for the Academy. Would it be possible for anyone to read it and give me feedback? I'll PM it to anyone willing to help. Thank you!

Submitting updates via mail is probably the best idea...or you can submit them via e-mail to Admissions(at)uscga.edu or your Admissions Officer.

February 1 RA Deadline

Objee,

If an applicant receives additional awards after the February 1 deadline, can it still be submitted and considered under RA? How soon after the RA deadline will applications received under RA and EA be reviewed again?

Thank you!

When you send in your supplemental forms package to the academy, are there any timelines to when your "lack list" on the website will be updated? With the deadline coming up I just wanted to make sure everything I sent made it there safely.

The best thing to do to check if your package is complete and everything arrived safely is to call your Admissions Officers. There is often a pretty big delay between your paperwork reaching the Academy and the lack list being grayed out. Better to call and find out, so if you are missing something, you can get it completed and overnight it.

Feb. 1 due date

Regarding the February 1, 2011 due date for submitting additional information after being deferred to RA, does the package need to be in the admissions office on the 1st or post-marked not later than the 1st?

If you read the first page of the 2015 Supplemental Forms Package, about half way down, it does not that the forms are to be POSTMARKED by February 1, 2011.

Well....DS was put into regular addmissions a few weeks ago so we drove to the USCGA for and interview and to drop off his grades and anothe recomendation. His dad got a call on Thursday from a CGA rep in the area for another interview on Tuesday night here in town. Anyone else get another interview? What does this mean? Thanks....

Ask the Academy Admissions Partner that contacted you. My guess is that he's using an outdated sheet, especially if your interview was done recently.
