Delay in application status

my DS has submitted everything he needed to, but he was told it takes several weeks for the information on his portal to be updated. This is frustrating because even with only two things showing incomplete, he has yet to hear about his dodmerb medical. His admissions officer acts like he doesn’t want to be bothered, and I understand how busy he must be, but I hate this. Someone console me. :help:

Sorry, this is probably not going to be comforting...but the system is not designed for the applicant's comfort. I see this here a lot -- "I submitted X two weeks ago, why haven't I heard anything.." USNA has thousands or applicants, and this is probably the heart of the Admissions process....information is flowing in continuously. DODMERB serves all Service Academies (and I think ROTC as well). The Admissions Officer's are busy dealing with the 100's of emails and calls they receive daily, and probably are impatient with calls from candidates that are simply looking for assurance that all is in order.

My advice is to be patient, but remain vigilant --if the portal is not updated in a couple weeks, Email Admissions to ensure that it was not somehow lost. If you don't here from DODMERB soon, again email the Admissions Counselor. If you don't get responses, you could ask the BGO to reach out and find out whats going on.

Good luck.

My DS has sent his transcripts twice starting 11 weeks ago - still not posted. He checked in with his admissions counselor and was told to be patient, there are so many things being added right now that it takes a while.

The instructions say the transcript should come from a school counselor, signed over the flap. Did that happen?

Suggestion - Have candidate obtain a sealed / official / signed on flap or officially sealed copy from your counselor on Monday, send it 2 day priority mail to admissions with tracking number. Send a second copy to your regional counselor same way. Too much at stake not to cover all bases. This is what my DS did first week of August and he said transcript shows up in less than a week. Granted they are busy right now, but leave nothing to chance.

He did send it (sealed, signed) 2 day priority with tracking several weeks ago. It was received. He checked in with his Admissions Counselor and was told, "
This is a very busy time of year for us so our scanning processes are a little backed up. It will processed in the order it was received. I am sorry for the lack of timeliness."

My DS discovered his info had been added to dodmerb website a month ago, despite never having been notified. He created an account and is trying to get his medical scheduled.

In other news, we were slightly discouraged by the fact that his MOC ranked a primary nomination, and it was not my DS. I know there is still a chance to be selected from the NWL, and this means an appointment would come later rather than sooner.

My inner snowflake is blowing in the wind...

I like how you bring up the snowflake as a coping mechanism!

My DS got a similar letter from one of his 3 MOCs (Sorry Charlie, but we picked another kid), but managed to pick up one from the MOC he interviewed with, a month previously. These MOCs talk to each other and figure things out amongst themselves, so they're not sending nominations to the same candidate. I am going to appeal to your inner snowflake and hope that is the case for your DS.

For the OP . . . the trigger for the medical exam is completing 50% of your packet. That should lead to a request to schedule the exam. However, Admissions will review your package even without medical. Medical qualification is needed for an appointment, but that is potentially months away. Finally, the fact that you don't see your portal updated doesn't mean USNA hasn't received -- and acted upon -- the submitted information.

As frustrating as it may be . . . patience is key. There is still plenty of time for DODMERB, appointments, etc. And I wouldn't expect much to occur between now and early January -- USNA also takes time off for the holidays, painful as that may be for applicants.
