There goes the summer I hoped would be a the best one yet. Got denied from USAFASS, SLE, and now NASS. I missed the deadline for USCGA so that's gone too. Thanks to everyone who answered my questions.

I will now focus on the actual application.

Sorry to hear this, it not the end of the world. Did you decide on the CVW? It's a great view and well worth the trip. Just think of the positive... extra weeks to work on your app, volunteer, study for SAT, part time job. Focus on what you can do to help your app!

Do you play a sport? If you have the funds, you might look into one of the sport camps; that will get you on "campus" and give you a feel for the academy. My son attended a camp last summer, there were a variety of ages and levels to include a lot of "locals" so not just for kids who are hoping to be recruited. DS had the unique experience of being there for I-Day so he got to witness it first hand and he and a fellow wanna-be even got hollered at by a detailer for lurking the halls. Great fun!

Good luck!

My son denied today as well. Very discouraging. Been to lax camp at academy 3 times. Rejected for stem 2 times. From very competitive district . Offered cvw twice but conflicted with lax season this spring. Requested fall cvw, but no response yet.

Make sure he keeps his head up. Just keep trying. I've been in contact with some grads and they've all said to just keep trying.

I agree with Dad2020 & maxd950729, do not let this ruin your summmer because many get appointed who do not attend NASS. DS was appointed to a SA and did not attend a summer program. Attended NASS but didn't receive an appointment to USNA. Work on your application and make sure you are competitive! Don't forget the NROTC scholarship app as well. There are many paths to becoming an officer! Good luck and enjoy your summer!

I was denied my junior year in high school from all of the summer programs from each academy. I was then denied by all the academies, and didn't receive an NROTC scholarship my senior year in high school. I then got waitlisted to Virginia Tech for the engineering program. At that point in my life I thought I was going to end up in community college. I managed to get off the waitlist at Virginia Tech and into the engineering program, still don't know how... I then joined the corps of cadets and became an NROTC college programer (non-scholarship). I worked hard my first semester got a 3.2 GPA in engineering, volunteered as much as I could, then I reapplied for the 4 year national scholarship, and got it. Now I am waitlisted for the Naval academy. The point is to never give up. When you feel like there is no clear end insight get your hands dirty and work hard, and most importantly don't give up no matter what! You never know what you can achieve!

Don't be discouraged .... as I noted in another thread, NASS is an outreach program, and acceptance is not a reflection of USNA interest in your son. Invite to CVW is indicator of interest --by all means make the effort to attend. ( I don't know if Admissions has the ability or manpower to cross reference participation in sports camp, STEM programs, and NASS , but would expect that participation in one would affect acceptance to others).
