Hello all,

I am a 2027 USNA applicant and recently had a trauma incident to a tooth. In USNA’s medical appendix, it states that “unsatisfactory restorations, bridges, dentures or implants” and “Current orthodontic appliances for continued treatment” are disqualifying. If I were to get a Maryland bridge or any dental bridge, would I be okay going into plebe summer/I-day with it? Or would it be considered disqualifying by their definition since I’d still have it in? I know dental bridges can last from 5-7 years but would that be unsatisfactory since it is “temporary?”

Thanks.

I will preface this by saying I am not a Dentist, but my understanding of what you are asking is NO, you will not be disqualified as long as the Bridge is not "Temporary" ie: meant to only last a very short time until the permanent fix is done, or in the alternative done improperly and needing repair or replacement. What I believe is that anything that is not permanent or "shoddy" work that any reputable dentist would have to fix is disqualifying. The orthodontic DQ is so that you have no protruding metal in your mouth that again is "temporary" ie: going to be removed.

I don't think a Maryland Bridge is temporary, so you should be fine.

Thank you for the reply. I am going to call the office of admissions just to be sure and know exactly what they deem acceptable. Thank you for clearing that up though, I appreciate your help.
