Denying an offer to Summer Seminar

I was recently offered a slot to the 2017 Summer Seminar at USAFA but after looking at my schedule in June I have found that it will not work within my schedule. Boys State collides with Session B so my only other option would be Session A but I believe it will be more beneficial to attend Westpoints SLE as it is geographically closer so I would not need to buy a cross country plane ticket as I would need to do for USAFA. My question is will me denying this offer to USAFA SS ultimately negatively impact my future application? Or would it be understandable given my situation? I know it is difficult to give a definite answer as it is ultimately up to admissions officer but If someone has been in this situation please reply. Thank you

Not attending Summer Seminar will have no negative weight on your application.

There are plenty of other people that applied that were rejected and placed on the waiting list that will receive your slot if you decide not to attend.

I am literally in the same exact situation that you are. I denied the USAFA summer seminar offer 2 days ago. Hope to see you at SLE.

Congratulations--sounds like you will have a busy summer. I would agree with the prior posts, but also suggest that you explain this rationale with your ALO to ensure they understand your denial is not related to lack of interest.

I'll bring up a counter point even though you didn't ask.

If WP is close enough that doing a visit there is relatively easy, I'd recommend attending SS instead, because it will give you a great chance to see/get a feel for USAFA about as cheaply as possible.

Now if you are already planning one of those great cross country college visiting tours that some do, then forget it, I'm just saying maybe you should be thinking the other way around. Both are great opportunities so you can't make a bad choice, just wanted to throw that out there in case you hadn't thought about it
