Detachment interview location issue

My daughter is being directed to the closest schools geographically for the detachment interviews but is running into a stumbling block. The NROTC location is asking whether she is applying there or not which she isn't. She can't get past that screen to schedule. Any words of wisdom? Similar issue with the AFROTC detachment she has been directed to....

Maybe call a unit she hopes to attend and they can lend a hand? Or perhaps they'll suggest a Skype interview or something?

@kinnem always has sound advice.

The requirement is that the interview is conducted by an officer currently at an NROTC unit. It does not have to be the nearest unit. And there is no requirement for face to face, although I believe that to be the best case scenario.

Perhaps it's a glitch on the website? Have you tried to call the unit to confirm if they are only conducting interviews for applicants who are applying to that school? If they are indeed blocking interview requests for those not applying to that school, that is troubling and (IMHO) should tell you something about that unit. That approach is not what Commander NSTC envisioned when he set this new requirement for NROTC officer interviews.

As kinnem suggested, consider calling the unit at your DD's #1 and request an interview with them. I think in person is always best, but Skype, Facetime, Google will still convey professional appearance, show mannerisms during the questions within the interview, facial expression, etc.

Good luck.

My DS had no trouble interviewing at a school he was not applying to. Our closest was still 90 minute drive. He just called the detachment to schedule.

Our DS called to schedule at local University, an hour away. He did have them listed on his application, they were happy to interview and set it up in a hurry to get in front of the first board. It was pretty comic, my son said the officer reviewed his file, then the very 1st question he asked was why "University X" was his 5th choice (the school where the interview was conducted was his 5th choice). DS answered, finished interview 50 minutes later and then the ice was broken when the officer said the university wasn't his 1st choice either. Hysterical.

I would suggest reaching out to his admissions counselor as well. Our DS has a great one and she has been very positive and helpful. She actually reviewed his file and encouraged him to finish his application for the 1st boards. Good thing she did, he was offered the scholarship last week. Good luck to her!
