Did I get accepted?

I applied EA and got deferral notice on the 15th. However, I got a call yesterday from my congressman and he said that he was contacted by the academy and they said that they are going to give me an appointment. He told me I'll get official notice within a few days. Is it common for anyone to get deferred then accepted two days later? Was he possibly referring to a congressional nomination?

I believe this is the first year for EA, so I don't think anyone knows what "common" is.

Congrats! Sounds like you're in!

When your portal updates next Friday, you will know for sure.

The Academy will continue to make appointments up to Regular Selections. The difference now is that both EA deferred and those that are now completing their files will be considered. Approximately 50% of the appointments will still be made in Regular Selections.

First, one has to assume that if he said appointment, he meant appointment. Further, one would think the person on the other end of the phone from the MOC would have clarified this during the call if there were any question in their mind. An area said person should perhaps work on in the future. There is no point in having the conversation if the communication is not clearly understood.

Certainly the scenario you describe is not impossible. It might very well be that when the assessment was made on deferral that the nomination slate was not at hand. Once the nomination slate became available the decision on who would get the appointment was clear.

Good luck! Hope you heard properly! :thumb:

Keep us posted!

Good encouragement for the rest who were deferred!

My son received in the mail yesterday, a beautiful, very official folder from our congressman which contained inside the nomination letter, which he had previously received, AND a Certificate of Recognition for receiving an APPOINTMENT to the USNA.

What was one to think?

So yes, to clarify, a phone call to the MOC office this morning was indeed in order. Sad to say, they mistakenly used the word APPOINTMENT instead of NOMINATION.

Wait so they used appointment instead of nomination in my case? And sorry but what exactly is MOC?

Thanks... I tried calling but office hours are only M-F. One of my buddies that lives in my district got his official acceptance from the Academy on the 14th of January.. However, he did not get a call from our congressman yesterday which might be a good sign that it was not a nomination, but hopefully an actual appointment. He said that we will get together for a reception with all of the appointees soon.

I think andzgirl was referring to their situation, not to yours. She was pointing out though that Members of Congress do make mistakes and sometimes say appointment when they mean nomination. It does behoove you to make sure you understand these tings when the phone call is first made so that:
1. You aren't making calls later to clarify and
2. You don't retreat in the future when your colonel told you to attack with your platoon, or vice-versa. How do you think that would go over?
3. Lurkers here don't make the same "mistake".

Sorry to keep harping on this and I really don't mean to be picking on you. Just using this as an illustration of something to focus on because it will make a big difference this summer and in the rest of your life.

Indeed….I was doing just that!
Sorry to have misled you.
It was a very emotional mistake for our family, but we are all laughing about it now!

He was very likely giving you the good news!!!
Two of my candidates had exactly the same thing happen to them yesterday. They were deferred on one day, then offered Appointments the next. The MOCs have just received a batch of appointment notifications. They are given about a week and a half to contact their nominees before it is officially posted on your portal.

This will continue on until all Appointments are offered- usually by the first of April. Those receiving deferrals should not despair! Only a VERY SMALL number of Appointments were given out for EA.

The same thing happened to DD on Saturday. She was deferred on Wed and given an appointment to the academy on Sat. We were settling in for a LONG wait, then she got a call from her nominating senator on the 18th to say she was accepted to the academy.

It was a wonderful surprise!!

MOC is member of congress. My DS received his certificate this weekend from our congressman and his said appointment too. We noticed on other certificates the word nomination was used. We are wondering the same as you. Good luck to you!
