Curious anyone on hold who have not visited school yet? If so I can imagine the stress of being on hold and the unknown. I have not seen the school but my DS has and I am very anxious of the unknown.

I understand if you cannot make the trip. It is frustrating, especially when it seems like everyone else has visited. I have never known anyone who visited campus and became less likely to want to attend there. It is really beautiful. If you live far away and are not independently wealthy, you may also have to send your DS/DD off to INDOC alone. I did that twice. Your kid will be okay. And then there will be Thanksgiving and spring break where you cannot afford to bring your plebe home (and/or there really is not enough time). And that's okay too. Your plebe will have multiple offers to go home with a classmate who lives closer. That's why we call it the Kings Point Family. Your DS/DD is smart, capable, and resourceful beyond your realization.

We visited in December when DS was home from college, a beautiful campus and area, less than 40 miles away for us. However the ride home turned into a 2 1/2 hour ordeal with traffic.

I did a day visit... which was plenty. When I was a plebe I hosted some overnight folks and it can be weird, you're trying to study or watch netflix, or do stuff and you have someone living on a cot in the middle of your room. You get the full experience with a day visit, go spend your overnight in the city and have a good time.

Sure it is nice to visit KP and it is certainly beautiful, but definitely not necessary. First time my son saw campus was the day before Indoc. It was a matter of not enough time as he was living far away and self-prepping at college, but more importantly, he didn't really care what the campus was like. It is what it is and he was just glad to be offered an appointment. He saw it as not picking which one had better facilities etc., but picking what would be the best for his future overall. I don't think you need to visit unless you aren't sure about which academy you want to attend (in the case of multiple appointments) and have the luxury of choosing based on academy 'feel'.

That said, no harm in visiting one way or another. Just my two cents worth!

Definitely not necessary, of course. But I will say that a reason for visiting the campus is NOT just because you want to look at the facilities. Spending that night with a current student gave my son first hand knowledge of what school was like there. He sat in on classes, saw the mids in their daily life. The mid he stayed with answered questions and gave lots of useful information. Sure the campus was nice but the visit had nothing to do with looking at the facilities.

Here's how things worked out for our DS (2021). We visited USMA first, than USCGA. Were working on scheduling a visit to USMMA when he received his appointment. Not wanting to press his luck, he accepted the appointment to KP, and then went for a day visit/tour. Seeing the campus and attending some classes only solidified his decision. A little backwards, but it all worked out. I wish you and your DS the very best. Hang in there.....

I have made it clear that I didn't visit prior to Indoc because I lived on the West Coast. In truth, it isn't really necessary. Beautiful campus? You bet. Does it matter during Indoc and Plebe Year (or even the other three for that matter); not really. Personally, I recommend a visit if you can. If not? Save some money.

Same here, first time on campus was the 1st day of indoc, the grinder was brand new.

We are from the West. I agree with @cmakin although I haven't visited KP. The campus looks nice on a picture. Sent my DS alone last November to visit KP. He had an overnight visit as an athlete and slept in the bunk of a plebe who was expelled from KP. He met the coach and the team. Some of the mids tried to scare him and tell him that KP is a tough place. After that he had breakfast with all and attended some classes. This is exactly what I wanted. I wanted him to have more personal experience inside KP. Like @joriebelle said - good to have, but not necessary. It is completely up to you. Good luck!

We didn't even call it the Grinder in my day. . .

It IS a pleasant enough place. I have only been back a couple if times since I got out. . . and while my guests enjoyed the visits well enough, memories prevented the same feelings. . . for the most part. It IS a tough place. . .but as I have stated in other threads, there are reasons for that.
