Differences between SMC and AROTC

I have to chime in because I will always defend myself when wrongly accused.

1. Do you know what tapping out means?
~ It is a reference to tag team wrestling. When one wrestler wants out, they tap out so someone else can continue the fight. It had ZERO to do with you!

2. Where on Gods green Earth did you ever get the idea I am pro SMC/anti-ROTC.
~ It is common knowledge that my DS commissioned AFROTC.

As for your remark to VMI, did you ever think why posters responded the way they did?

Had you come on here, like many cadets/plebes dropping on request from an SA that this thread would have gone differently.

I.E.
~ I have decided to leave VT. I submitted my paperwork for spring admission to GMU two weeks ago. I do not want to discuss my decision, or have posters try to sway me. My decision has been made, but I do want to give insight to candidates and their parents while an SMC maybe seen as a guaranteed AD commission it does not mean it is a good fit for them.

From there go on why you are not a fit at VT.

Instead you were always on the defensive. It took pages of pulling teeth from you and frustrating posters because you kept giving different excuses of why.
~ heck, I am still not sure. I believe you are gridiron and due to that fact I think a lot has to do with parental influence, but than again it could be you are almost 22 forced to live an 18 yr old life at an SMC. Maybe it is you have decided you don't want to go AD and the belief that an internship can be parlayed into a job on the Hill upon graduation, thus Reserve/Guard looks better now!

You also did not answer every question. I have asked multiple times what do the folks say?You also stated you never said it was a financial aspect, but clearly on post 14 you did say it.

Just saying I won't put words in your mouth, don't put them in mine.

I am Damn proud of my DH (AFROTC) and my DS (AFROTC) UMDCP. Just as much as I am proud of my DD at VT with a Liberal Arts degree and my DS2 at GMU as a Bio Chem major, non ROTC!

Did it ever cross your mind that I actually defended you attending GMU for your major? I guess you didn't read post 17.

I am not going to back down on the fact that at 21 you didn't do proper research and your post to JCC made me chuckle! You are 21, not 17! Wise advice to 17 year olds, but it begs the question that is on every posters mind.
~ Why at the age of 21 didn't you do due diligence? Why if this is your future you jumped? Do you believe that is what the military is looking for regarding officers? Or do you believe like the majority of posters here you gather Intel and make a plan from that?

Just saying, maybe we are also looking at the fact that you are 21 and reactionary when what is needed is long term action plans!

In the end thank you for wanting to defend this great nation. I truly wish you the best. If you are gridiron, I hope that your parents will eventually respect your decision to serve. If not, you need to move on, and decide if you can live without their support.

You make a point, with that I apologize for coming off a bit to "harsh" or defensive in my remarks. I get what you were trying to tell me its just that there are a bunch of former SMC grads that pride themselves soo much that they think anyone who doesn't go to a SMC is not worthy of a commission or AD spot. I have come across some posts on here by those types of individuals and assumed the responses to my questions would be like so. That is why my replies seem reactionary. In regards to the my other account, gridiron, I had some technical issues with it and made a new one. Sure I made a decision to go to GMU but that dosen't mean I cannot get some insight by people who may know something--because what I would is relay that info to someone who works in the AROTC department at that school and verify it. I am not here to be comforted in my decisions if that makes sense

VMI,

Thank you for your kind, supportive compliment. Right back at you!

GoRmy,

I say this with kindness, but most of your posts leave me with WHAT? HUH? Not only your GoArmy, but gridiron too! I have a 23, 21 and 19 yrold, so I am pretty use to that age group and shaking my head in the did you honestly just say that is more common than not. However, I believe their situational awareness(SA)is at a different level than yours.

For example:
1. The SMC comment. Please promise me that when you return to GMU you will never ever say that to your command! Think about it. Do you know where they attended undergrad? How about their BFF since their first tour?

The comment they pride themselves too much, even though you are defending ROTC commission can be seen in a negative manner.
~ I have never seen it that way at all. I have always viewed it as school pride! Ask VMI if he thinks VT is better in training officers than VT! I am willing to bet my beloved dog, Myrtle, his response will be :yllol: Ask UMDCP cadets if they think VT is better? Guessing the same response (might be wrong, but I believe they have won the best large AROTC detachment in the nation recently .

This is how the world works...it is all called dogging! Heck I didn't even get into the fact that once AD SMC and ROTC grads will protect their commissioning path against a WP grad!

2. You believe you will take this back to GMU and discuss/verify it there. What? Huh?

That screams to me you don't understand how clued in they (PMS, COC) are and how a forum like this works.
~ Except for posters like clarkson, the majority of posters here responding are giving their anecdotal experience from their personal life. They are not in the inner sanctum.

What exactly do you expect them to say? Honesty right Noe. Do you believe the PMS at GMU is going to say we s*ck compared to VT and you were a fool to leave? Do you think that when you come back they are not going to be looking twice as hard at you for coming back, especially if you didn't discuss going to VT over GMU?
~ Sure as Sheatt I would. I would need a lot of proving yourself,especially BC you are almost 22. You aren't the 18 yr old freshmen and decided it was not a good fit. You voluntarily left that unit after being a member for at least a year, maybe two.

3. As gridiron, your posts made me go :eek::confused::bang::scratch::yikes: I could go on with more emocons, but you get the po.int. This foes back to do you understand how forums like this work? There are almost 22,000 members here.

Your generation believes my generation are not computer savvy. It is only when they go for a job interview do they realize that they left a social media footprint! And we are not as stupid as you assumed. Can you right now say that nobody at the Patriot battalion is not lurking on this site?

Here's the scary thought for you and every cadet/candidate regarding how the cute little moniker does not hide who you are.
This is your background that I have pieced together just by your posts.
1. Dad is from Nigeria, came here 30 years ago, back in the 80s. You are first generation
2. Folks disapprove of the Army
3. Dad thinks racial discrimination occurs in the military
4. You are from Fairfax VA, probably Annandale, Burke, maybe Centreville or West Springfield
5. You were born in 1992
6. You attend NVCC, guessing Annandale
7. You have switched majors a lot. You were bio, but now international/govt
8. You are looking for a career field with low deployment rates.
9. You are transferring back from VT
10. You applied to WP and got the TWE

How many of the cadets at GMU do you think match those 10 points besides you? Scary, huh? Did I just make you paranoid that maybe Capt.Smith lurks on here and now has seen a side of you that you never wanted to expose? Don't even get me started on how belonging to a FB group gave them a backdoor to that aspect.

My very best advice is until the day you die somebody has something to teach you, and embrace it. I eat crow/humble pie on a monthly basis at ythe very least. I don't take it personally. I use it to make myself a better person. I also don't keep score or assume that everyone is against me or my beliefs. I take their opinions and think/ponder/question if my position is one that I still believe in after hearing/reading those that opposed my position.

Now for mpo. I don't think you really want this life. Your posts as gridiron 4 months ago doesn't show it. Ball is in your court. Your job, if you choose to accept it is to make me and others eat crow. You choose not to accept it, than realize long term posters may decide not to play with you in the future when you really need us.

Parents are not Nigerian and I never WENT to GMU (it wouldn't make sense to say I am going back to a school I never attended) it was them that brought up the idea of "low deployment rates" NOT me. Just because I have questions about the military doesn't mean I do not want this life

Fist off, I have to say that part of me hates myself for not turning off the lights. The other part says maybe, just maybe GoArmy will get it! If he doesn't, than I hope some posters/lurkers walk away with the big picutre for their future.
~ I might be a cynic, but I always have hope!

GoArmy,

I have tried to subtly illustrate aspects that you may really want to rethink, but somehow I have failed getting you to grasp the big issues!

You, again, believe that the piquene facts that were incorrect will divert everyone's attention.

OMG....I said Nigerian, but Ethiopian was the real fact. Geez, seriously? I get it is your heritage, and my apology, but impo, that is like me saying they were from Portugal, but really from Spain!
~ What was your point? How many cadets do you think have a parent that immigrated in the 1980s and immigrated as a baby at any ROTC unit?

You missed the big pic. If any GMU or a friend of a GMU PMS lurks/posts here they are going to call them and say....Hey, you have to go on SAF and read GoArmy/gridiron posts!
~ The cynic in me. Or maybe it the fact that some of these posters have become my friends off line. Or maybe it is I talk with my non-SAF friends and say...can you believe this?
~ Remember I have a DS at GMU and they(all of my kids) tease me about my SAF life. DS got married in May. AFROTC commissioned. One poster here was invited, that poster also asked DH (Bullet) to fly out to USAFA and administer the commissioning oath. Bullet did! Just saying the military world is much smaller than you ever imagined. For a generation that thinks they are tech savvy, they are ignorant when it comes to social media!
~~ Do you know if scout lurks on here and put 2 + 2 together? Do you know if his colleagues out of the Helo world did not collide with the PMS at GMU? Did you not get chills up your spine when JCC posted pages ago that they were the first to realize/think you were gridiron? Rered JCleppes post. He realized Jcc and I realized you eer gridiron, and JCC was kind.
~~~ Please don't play the tech issues. The only way that works for me is if you forgot your password and canceled your previous email. I am an old member. You posted for a year. You got hit for the blow deployment rate, Caucasian posts and privileges at VTCC.
~~~~ Just saying, don't attack the messenger that is 50 and a wife for saying I have faith in this site and as a student at VT, you now have an email at VT address and they didn't realize you were gridiron.
~~~~~ Chances are that acknowldgement may cause issues here because you have 2 accounts which is against the TOS
That is my point.
Secondly, the folks said it.
~ Okey dokey, but YOU posted it! You are 21/22. Was your goal a debate? Great, I am up for debates, but please go reread your posts, everyone of them including the racial discrimination posts.
~~ JMPO, but they feel like your SMC grad posters assumption! Guilty until you decide they are innocent.
Thirdly, reading comprehension is not your strong suit impo. This is not meant as an insul . My DS2 is a tech major, and he excels in Math/Science...English, writing essays are his short comings to say the least!
~ Reread my pprvious post. Point 3. #6. I stated you attended NVCC, probably the Annadale campus, since you only live 5-10 mins away fro GMU. I never said you were a GMU student, only that you were an AROTC cadet at GMU.
Heck, just because I hate, HATE BS, I am going to call you out on when you called me out regarding the Patriot Battalion. Did you not say it was a host unit? Yet,gridiron stated that do LLAB at their school, but PT is xcampus and not at GMU! That is not a host campus. Host does both!
You play cat and mouse with every post and think we will ignore what you decide to ignore. Only a fool believes that impo!
Me OTOH, believes that we all see the writing on the wall, and I am the only one hard headed enough to keep banging my cranium against the wall with hopes that you will get it!
~ The others, such as, JCC, Jcleppe, kinnem, NAS and VMI are eating popcorn and watching the show.:jerry:
Stay tuned.
Mods I ask that you do not lock this thread because I truly believe for applicants and candidates this is pertinent. It may create conversations with their folks about their fiuture. It may also give candidates an idea of moral questions. Finally, it may give insight that a PMS is a lurker here and will pose questions for the interview
~ deployment rate, Caucasian ratio.
It is off topic, but it is also a learning experience as far as I am concerned. I hope you agree
GoArmy,
VMI warned you. He did have the scorned issue wrong. My motto is you dont F with 3 things. My friends, family and finances. You are messing with two of my three. Friends and Family. My military friends are my family!
~The sooner you get that, the sooner you will be the best officer ever! Think that is a lie? Post a new thread on life after the Academy this:
The holiday season. Is approaching how often can you get home for BOTH Thanksgiving and Christmas? JMPO, but tell the folks getting 1 holiday is a 50-50 SHPT. Getting both...go buy a lottery ticket!
~~ DS commissioned 2012. He has been home for 1 XMAS. Won't be home this year for either because he is at C130 school.
Off my soapbox! I believe I have given every poster/lurker info to think about and will no longer go down the rabbit hole! You wànt to move forward, than oit is your choice, but fair warning!
GridIron/GoArmy:
The thing that bothers me the most here is that you tried to deceive us all, and it wasn't until PIMA called you out that you finally admitted to your identity.
Lives depend on your honesty, your strength, your integrity. It is my opinion that you lack all three.
GoAmy,
Please quote where I ever said your posed a "STUPID" question?
Show me and other posters that anyone EVER said stupid! Your words, not ours. You assumed that was our opinion. You did not even think we believed you were naive. You didn't look in our history to see we always say there is no such thing as a stupid question. You impo confuse stupid with ignorant/arrogant.
Again, i will defend my name and others when slandered. You, my dear poster, assumed again in a negative. If my going to be brutally honest, I don't think you are stupid. I think your reading comprehension is lacking! I also think you would make a great attorney...you have a knack for playing the game of diversion.
I am tired and accept now that you don't want guidance/support. You want reinforcement that you are right!
GOODNIGHT!
~ Caveat, you attack/warp posts I will be back. Just remember what I stated earlier regarding reading through the BS!
What are we at now with the I GET IT/UNDERSTAND, but yet twist the knife to continue the fight? My guess between GoARMY and gridironkid we have to be at least 30
~Shame on me !
You get it and understand...prove it! Hint....ask how I can prove myself as a transfer back to their GMU detachment.
GET THIS THREAD BACK ON TRACK!
The military is like any athletic competition...rarely does defense win. Take the ball and go offense. Heck, here's the ball...run with it!
In case you want to buy a horse to ride in on, I have one! The old geezers like me will get the joke!
hey PIMA! I have been on that horse a few times!! :shake::yllol: Heck, I've ridden it in and back out too.
USMC,
I am with you. GoArmy doesn't want guidsànce and I deserve 1,000,000 lashes with wet LoMein noodle.
.
I tru!y believed that I could make the see the big picture until their last response
GoArmy I am out because in the big pic when it comes to your situation, you decided to leave an SMC.
To the 2015/16/17/18 cadets/mids God Bless and God Speed
To the 2019, appilcants/candidates...Good luck and enjoy this year, make memories!
My number one goal is to be a shoulder.
Fencer, LMAO, and two years later after commissioning we still are riding that dang horse as parents!
If you want advice and someone gives it to you, end it there.
Your responses are passive agressive, where you say thanks but goes on to challenge or deny or modify your position. So that's why many posters are percieving that you don't care about our advice, rather to quote PIMA "You want reinforcement that you are right."
GoAArmy, there is a poster from here that is at VT AROTC and I believe you need to talk to them because they are your peer and understand how you are feeling. That posters name is gridiron.
They are identical with you.
~ 21
~ Transfer student from NoVA
~ Was in AROTC as a NVCC student, I believe at GMU too
~ Non Stem major at VT
~ Issues with fraternization
Here's why I may get in trouble with the mods. I believe you are gridiron and have reincarnated yourself as GoArmy. I know that there are many transfer students at both colleges, but I have a hard time biting off that on a site like this, and with your background, that the two of you have not become fast friends. The whole lack of answering what do the folks think, also raises a red flag.
Yep! :thumb: GoArmy92=gridironkid
Quite a few of us think this.
