Different nomination, different state?

Hello, I am currently awaiting a decision on my USNA Class of 2030 application. Since I have already secured the NROTC Scholarship, I consider this my Plan B if I do not qualify for NAPS or USNA.

I need clarification on the nomination process when relocating. As I plan to move to a different state for my NROTC option, should I apply for nominations from my home state or from the state where my university is located?

Any guidance would be very helpful. Thank you for your time.

Where will you be registered to vote? Whose constituent do you consider yourself to be? What state is your driver’s license from? Where do you pay state become tax if there is any?

Usually, if you are “away at school,” your home of residence is not in the school city/state.

And, were you successful in getting MOC noms this cycle? Then you will be known to the SA staffers, and you can showcase your grit, determination and unrelenting focus on USNA.

I will be registered to vote this coming November in the state of California (same as a driver's license + taxes). I'm in the CA-14 (Swalwell) district.

I was successful in getting Swalwell's nomination for USNA. I believe his district only does competitive alternatives (not 100 percent sure, but that's what I got).

The follow-up question is whether it is best to start my USNA Class of 2031 application. I'm still waiting for my current application for 2030, but I'm not sure if I should start studying for the SAT or ACT again (SAT is my weakest point). Thank you your help.

See screenshot. You have time. You already qualified to be a candidate once, your basic file info will still be on record, so the rush to get a prelim application in, If you end up being a reapplicant, is moot for you.

College reapplicants are typically not decided on until USNA has a chance to see first semester college grades.

I would wait until you get your decision, most likely this month. You could do some preparatory organizing; you have expertise now. As to SATs - certainly, if you think you might be scheduling one in the next few months, you would feel better if you started a routine of study sessions. Easily abandoned if need be! (I am way out of date on when SATs, etc., are scheduled in this century. I took the PSAT fall junior year, the SAT once fall senior year, and was happy with my scores).

In case you haven’t found this yet:

But 🤞you see a prep or appointmemt offer appear in your portal, or you get The Call!IMG_7370.png

Thank you very much for the help. It means a lot to me, and I will go ahead to take the advice. Much appreciated. 👍

From a civic standpoint, I recommend remaining a legal resident - to include voter registration - of your current district. Unless you plan on living off campus, year round, you're not really a constituent where you're attending college. My son has kept everything at our address while he's away at school. I would even go so far as to maintain this until you reach your first permanent duty station after graduation, commissioning, and follow-on initial training.
