Disappointment in President’s unprofessionalism

He is boss of a whole bunch of people who were in that stadium. He can wear anything he wants. Also, “Elections have consequences.”
-Barak Obama

There is no question that President Trump is the boss of everyone on that field, be they Democrats or Republicans or something else. And indeed, he can wear whatever he wants. And he knows that many will not like the choice to wear a campaign hat. The question is, I think, WHY? Why choose a campaign hat? Why not instead choose a super cool hat with the presidential seal, or maybe, a specially made hat for the game?

On a side note, President Obama also, when he was president, was the boss of all those players and hopefully, when he WAS president, those players knew how to spell his name.

This forum is not made for political opinions, it was built to help candidates with admissions, connect parents who share that bond of having a kid at the academy, and allow alumni to help out current or future academy cadets/midshipmen. The OP 100% has a right to his or her opinion but this is not the place to talk about it. Instead we should be talking about Perry’s amazing performance or looking back on the firsties four years of dedication to their respective institutions and programs.

This is the same president that stood on the stage and shook the hand of every single graduating midshipman.
I continually hear how wonderful a person former President Carter is but when he came to my USNA graduation, he shook hands with the top 100 and then sat down for the rest of the graduation. As a grad, he should have known how much it would mean to the rest of us to have shaken his hand but there he sat. For all of his warts, real or imagined, President Trump made the effort.

During the game, I saw him on TV moving around the stadium to some degree and actually spending time with the Mids and cadets. I've been to MANY Army/Navy games and never saw another President do that either.

Feel free to flame me for that though as this probably makes me a bad person in some eyes for not vilifying the president.

Excellent observation! And indeed a former Mid should have have sensed the power of his office and that of his actions, or lack thereof. In spite of his many awkward moments, Trump does reach out to the populace like many never have.

Only 10 presidents have ever gone to this game (yes, some have gone multiple times, like Trump), but who cares what hat he's wearing. We should just be happy that the Commander in Chief was able to make it out to America's games unlike a lot of other presidents.

Fantastic.
Before CBS showed that my son texted me and said “damn, President Trump went to the opposite side of the stadium to stand with the midshipmen.“ He would have been honored.

He was fortunate to be ten yards on the field away from the President - his company was selected to be on the field when Navy ran out. Got a quick video.

It seemed noticeable/significant to see the POTUS in the mix in the stands to me.

OP here. A few things. First of all many of you have been saying this is not the appropriate forum to discuss politics, but this is the off topic section and you did wander over here on your own, so. Sure, I could post this on a political forum, but I don’t think I would have gotten as deep of a discussion about it anywhere else, seeing as this is a forum with many USNA/USMA connected people. This is also far from the first politics-related post on this forum.

Second, for those insinuating I don’t like POTUS? Well, I voted for him in 2016. And I enlisted, then applied to Navy, with pride knowing I would be serving under his administration. I don’t feel that pride anymore. This isn’t even close to the worst example of inappropriate, indecent, unprofessional conduct from him.

Third, it’s setting a real low bar for saying we should all just be grateful he took the time to come to the game and interact with us. Seriously? He’s the President of the United States, the Commander-in-Chief. The trophy is named after his position. We shouldn’t be thankful he did the bare minimum. I expect more and better from someone with his power and influence.

As someone who was in the stands, I’ll also tell you, I was not alone in my disappointment. Barely anyone around me was genuinely clapping for him. That should speak for itself.

Surely you don’t know if they knew how to spell his name. Or, you figure they knew because they were really smart Academy boys. And, I think you’re busting on me, a lowly enlisted man who dares post here.

@GoBears22 Love him or hate him it is unfair to say he is doing the bare minimum. You can say what you want about the president and that is the wonderful thing about this country which you have fought to defend. It just doesn't make sense to me that we cannot get along and simply talk about service academy football or bacon for that matter. I realize I am merely a college freshman compared to a multitude of wise and experienced people on this forum, but I feel as if though my opinion on this matter is similar to others.
