Disappointment in President’s unprofessionalism

I decided to wait until the game was over to post this. But did anyone notice that POTUS was wearing a “Keep America Great” hat to the Army Navy game? I don’t care if you personally support/will vote for him or not. He should not have worn his own self-promotional gear to this type of event. This is no place to push your political campaign. This type of conduct is completely unprofessional and honestly, I was embarrassed to see that. Very very disappointed.

What do you all think?

Go Navy, Beat Army

One hundred percent agreed

If you’re waiting for him to not be unprofessional you are going to be waiting a long time. He’s different and he’s too old to Change at this point. People need to stop being ‘shocked’ at his outlandish or crazy actions lol

This became apparent, the day after his inauguration in a speech from the most hallowed 400 sq. ft. of CIA real estate.

And continues to this day, rage tweeting about an autistic Swedish teenager.

Neither George Washington nor Abraham Lincoln ever attended an Army-Navy Game. They had bigger issues to tend to, I’m sure. Yet few will dispute that they were our two greatest presidents. So there’s that!

(Now had they done so, I believe both would have eschewed a ball cap for their preferred tri-corner hat and stove-pipe hat, respectively. Styles were just different back then.)

Who says they were two greatest? That's your opinion. You must be one of the Warren G. Harding haters. Teapot Dome was fake news.

I continually hear how wonderful a person former President Carter is but when he came to my USNA graduation, he shook hands with the top 100 and then sat down for the rest of the graduation. As a grad, he should have known how much it would mean to the rest of us to have shaken his hand but there he sat. For all of his warts, real or imagined, President Trump made the effort.

During the game, I saw him on TV moving around the stadium to some degree and actually spending time with the Mids and cadets. I've been to MANY Army/Navy games and never saw another President do that either.

Feel free to flame me for that though as this probably makes me a bad person in some eyes for not vilifying the president.

Well, at least you got the President. At USMA the previous year, we got the Secretary of the Army, whose name escapes me in my old age. General Singlaub had just been relieved for criticizing President Carter's plan to withdraw US troops from Korea (Carter wanted to fulfill a campaign promise, but we're still there, after all was said and done.) The Secretary of the Army used the occasion to deliver a polemic on the supremacy of "civilian" in civil-military relations. Don't remember anything said about congratulations to the graduating class.

Anyway, the Supe gave us our diplomas. LTG Sidney B. Berry, combat veteran of Korea and Vietnam, grand old infantryman. Later, CG, V Corps. Glad I got to shake his hand.

Enough of your twaddle. William Howard Taft was the greatest President. He weighed nearly 350 pounds, all bone and sinew.

ED, I wish we heard more of you. You can riff like BB King and, like him, you always take the edge off when folks start to take themselves a little too seriously.

How's your DS these days?

I have always respected Harry Truman. Dropping two atomic bombs on civilian population centers is a tough decision which I would not wish on anyone. Not sure that I could have made it, but it was the correct decision.

I frankly was amazed at half time when the president walked across the field and right into the stands and appeared to be just going off on his own shaking hands with midshipman. All you could see was the red hat in a swarm of midshipman. I'll bet the secret service was going crazy. Say what you want about him, but that was cool.

A spot of red in a sea of Navy Blue.

That, I bet, is why he wore the hat.

The presidential security detail was able to track him without being in his back pocket.

We should all feel better now.

I would have preferred he didnt wear it. Saying that, I dont think it is an issue. The thing about Trump, is that man doesnt know the meaning of the word subtle

I am going to politely remind everyone that our rules are that we are to respectful of our public officials on our posts. While we offer slightly more leeway on the Off-Topic forum, disparagement is not allowed.

Specifically the rules are:
If you are here only to start trouble, please reconsider. This is a patriotic website where we love our country and hold the members of the Armed Forces in the highest esteem. While you are free to discuss and debate policy, tactics, and trends, posts which criticize the United States in general or the Armed Forces in particular may lead to a ban if the only reason for posting them is to insult or belittle.

The purpose of this site is not to discuss politics. Political discussions should be limited in context and scope, and our nation's elected officials respected at all times.

Ours is not to wonder why, ours is but to do or die, and into the valley of death rode the 600.

Ours is not to wonder why, ours is but to do OR die, and into the valley of death rode the 600.
If I had a nickel for everytime this quote is misquoted....

`Forward the Light Brigade!’
Was there a man dismay'd?
Not tho' the soldier knew
Some one had blunder'd:
Theirs not to make reply,
Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do AND die,
Into the valley of Death Rode the six hundred.

I much prefer Henry V's St. Crispin's day Speech, the origin of the phrase: Band of Brothers

WESTMORELAND

O that we now had here
But one ten thousand of those men in England
That do no work to-day!
KING HENRY V
What's he that wishes so?
My cousin Westmoreland? No, my fair cousin:
If we are mark'd to die, we are enow
To do our country loss; and if to live,
The fewer men, the greater share of honour.
God's will! I pray thee, wish not one man more.
By Jove, I am not covetous for gold,
Nor care I who doth feed upon my cost;
It yearns me not if men my garments wear;
Such outward things dwell not in my desires:
But if it be a sin to covet honour,
I am the most offending soul alive.
No, faith, my coz, wish not a man from England:
God's peace! I would not lose so great an honour
As one man more, methinks, would share from me
For the best hope I have. O, do not wish one more!
Rather proclaim it, Westmoreland, through my host,
That he which hath no stomach to this fight,
Let him depart; his passport shall be made
And crowns for convoy put into his purse:
We would not die in that man's company
That fears his fellowship to die with us.
This day is called the feast of Crispian:
He that outlives this day, and comes safe home,
Will stand a tip-toe when the day is named,
And rouse him at the name of Crispian.
He that shall live this day, and see old age,
Will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours,
And say 'To-morrow is Saint Crispian:'
Then will he strip his sleeve and show his scars.
And say 'These wounds I had on Crispin's day.'
Old men forget: yet all shall be forgot,
But he'll remember with advantages
What feats he did that day: then shall our names.
Familiar in his mouth as household words
Harry the king, Bedford and Exeter,
Warwick and Talbot, Salisbury and Gloucester,
Be in their flowing cups freshly remember'd.
This story shall the good man teach his son;
And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remember'd;
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition:
And gentlemen in England now a-bed
Shall think themselves accursed they were not here,Or
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.

Or listen to it delivered by Kenneth Branagh

My girlfriend and I noticed it when we were watching too. (You don't know her, she goes to another school)

Personally, I think it was disrespectful for him to insert his agenda into a game that's supposed to be about something else. Reminiscent of his speech at the BSA Summit.
Let me amend this statement. I may not agree his decision, but I very much respect him as our President.

I grew up in the big Apple. Same Trump city. And most long time NYC residents know the real Trump. He’s always been inappropriate taking the short cut. His family cheated their way in taxes and his self proclaimed successes were littered with bigger failures than successes. Many banks took great losses from his maverick real estate investments that went bad during the 80s and through the 90s. Billions of losses have been written down by banks. He owns very few real assets. Much of his income is derived from licensing and his name carries perception and deception to achieve success. Trump lived in relatively low profile for 2 decades before he re-emerged in 2015.

No one really took him seriously to become the president including himself. In fact Trump would have been more successful and liberated to do what he wants with his new worldwide recognition of Trump brand after the 2016 election had he lost.

But he won to even his own surprise. People elected him because many thought the other choice was even worse. He won not because people liked him so much but because by default he was thought to be the lesser evil. He won the support of Wall Street, Doctors, Lawyers, the church, old money and new money, many in the military, and those who got tired of PC.

He appealed to the struggling working class and the lower middle class. Because Trump is more like them and less like the old money and the educated elite society. Trump doesn’t like rules. He never did. And he never followed the law. And he never will. That ain’t Trump. And most people in the elite society know this all too well. Trump is a very cunning clever survivor with very crude and basic human ways. Although never eloquent when he was young he was very articulate. He speaks the way he speaks today so he can appeal to the working class. That’s more than 35% of America. And it’s working for him. He believes that he’s the center of the universe and wants absolute credit for all things looking good. He is all about perception and the end justifying the means. Trumps a merchant not a politician.

But many knew all this in the intellectual community and the old money. And they elected him despite Trumps weaknesses because this evil is better than the other evil. So for those who are still not over the 2016 election and for those who have change of heart can decide at the ballot box in 2020. Until then Trump is your President.

And yes America was great and is great and can be even greater if we can become more bi-partisan. Republicans have changed and so did the Democrats. I’m a moderate Republican but I can also work with Conservative Democrat values. We need to keep our military strong if not stronger. And keep our economy in top shape and fix part of our society that has become obsolete and retrain re-educate and repurpose our work force so we are current and well prepared for future demands in innovations and what makes us productive so our labor market is net contributor. And yes we still need cheap labor or alternative labor. And new blue color immigrants help fill this gap in our economy to run our farms and the construction industry all across America. Without them, our food and homes become more costly to build and more costly to maintain.

I know why this post came up. But I think we should return to mentoring young men and women seeking to prepare their best chance to SAs and ROTC Programs that will ultimately be their best fit. I will also stop commenting on this topic. Let’s get back to helping our young men and women navigate their options to SAs and college programs.

My apology for this long post.
