I chose to disenroll myself from AFROTC during my AS300 year. I am contracted, completed FT and had one year left. I wasn't happy with where my path after commissioning was going and knew my degree would give me more opportunity than the Air Force would, basically the jobs I could end up were not what I wanted and the civilian side would be better for starting a career and family, ect. My disenrollment came back and I must enlist with a 2 year active duty commitment immediately upon graduating from college, next year. I signed the contract and knew there was a small chance this could happen. I am not looking to dodge the contract. I am curious if anyone had experience with this situation and if there is a way I could get back into AFROTC. While I did not like where I could end up as an officer, there are more opportunities to make a career I would be happy with as an officer compared to what I feel like, is not the best use of my time to enlist for 2 years.

Well, this may seem harsh but I don't mean it to be. Two years is a very short time in your life and you'll survive it. Once you have your degree, if you still want to be an officer you will still be able to pursue that; and you might learn some valuable life lessons as an enlisted airman. I the meantime I don't think I'd want to see my son serving under someone whose heart really doesn't seem to be in it. Remember you also owe something to the men and women you lead. That being said, the best source for an answer to your question are the officers in your unit. Good luck.

It is with great humility that I dare to intrude on the best use of your time, but spending two years among the enlisted people of the world's greatest air force will have you working with airmen who also have college degrees and some of the best technical training of all the world's militaries.

I ask you as a taxpayer and a supporter of all that is righteous, do your two years and then move on to the civilian side which you say is better, and start your career and family.
