A little backstory on myself. I am a SMP cadet that is finishing up his disenrollement packet Monday. My reasons leaving ROTC is I realized I did not want to be an officer anymore and I just want to ETS when my contract is done in October 2nd. I have a few questions I wanted to ask in regards to that process and what to expect. First question is how long does it typically take for my disenrollment packet to get approved and I officially am out of ROTC? I have heard the process typically takes 4-5 months. If that is the case, by the time I am out of ROTC on paper I have 4-5 months left on my contract. Will my unit I am at now bother sending me back to my old artillery unit just for that short amount of time? Will my unit I am at now just keep me? Will they just cut my contract early? Any insight is appreciated.

You mentioned in a previous thread that your tuition was being paid by a National Guard Scholarship Program that was separate from ROTC. How has that been resolved, are you required to pay the money back or were you given a longer service obligation,
If you completed IET as an enlisted Soldier prior to becoming a SMP your current unit will probably keep you on the books until you ETS, if they have your MOS available and if you are green on your metrics, medical/dental, etc. You should speak with your NG Company CDR now and put together a plan so nothing is last minute.
That's interesting to know, The National Guard has a Scholarship Program that does not have any requirements for service obligation? Is there a time period that you can receive scholarship money and leave the program without any obligation, such as the 1 year period for the standard AROTC Scholarship?
Its semantics. Technically, it is not a scholarship. What I believe he is referring to is tuition exemption, outside of ROTC. Many states offer tuition exemption at state universities to National Guard Soldiers as a "benefit" while serving in the NG and attending college. It is available for enlisted, officers and SMP cadets, according to that state's policy. It is not based necessarily on a future service obligation, but on current service. True "scholarships" will have the conditions you reference but I don't think that's what he is referring to.

To add more clarity, a lot of states will require you have a certain number of years' retainability for the disbursement of funds. The only strings I've seen in a few states beyond the retainability requirement are stuff like it has to be an instate college, or classes have to work towards a degree, minimum grade of C, etc.
Never heard of someone having to pay those NG Scholarship funds back unless it was for a failed/withdrawn class.
