Disqualification

Actually, that is also not true. Just to be clear, the average SAT score is the average SAT score for a reason. I think the line of thinking around recruited athletes bringing down the SAT score average is rubbish. The admissions committee is building a class with a purpose. It is not one size fits all.
Trying to understand how it cannot be true that the athletes lower the average. My DS is currently active in the recruiting cycle and I see many football recruits announcing their commitment to USMA on twitter with 22 ACT scores. Having had a child go through the recruiting process in another sport, they most definitely had a lower ACT score than average but were told not a problem and they could be blue chipped for admittance. USMA brings in hundreds of athletes every year. I just can't see how it does not lower the average test score to some extent.

I want to be clear also that I don't have a problem at all with a high level athlete getting a pass on a lower test score. They are bringing a unique skill set to the academy that is in most cases very desirable.

Athletes are most definitely a portion of the lower scores but there are other categories that don’t rely on high scores either such as prior service and/or MAPs. It would be interesting to see the scores broken out. That said, none of mine superscored over a 29 and none were recruited.

There are Corps squad athletes with a wide range of test scores, just as there are slugs with a wide range of test scores. The class is based on the future needs of the Army for junior officers. So there is diversity of intellect, too.
