Trying to understand how it cannot be true that the athletes lower the average. My DS is currently active in the recruiting cycle and I see many football recruits announcing their commitment to USMA on twitter with 22 ACT scores. Having had a child go through the recruiting process in another sport, they most definitely had a lower ACT score than average but were told not a problem and they could be blue chipped for admittance. USMA brings in hundreds of athletes every year. I just can't see how it does not lower the average test score to some extent.Actually, that is also not true. Just to be clear, the average SAT score is the average SAT score for a reason. I think the line of thinking around recruited athletes bringing down the SAT score average is rubbish. The admissions committee is building a class with a purpose. It is not one size fits all.
I want to be clear also that I don't have a problem at all with a high level athlete getting a pass on a lower test score. They are bringing a unique skill set to the academy that is in most cases very desirable.
