DIY Summer block for C3C?

Re: this summer, I know we are waiting to get the plan for return of ‘21, ‘22, and ‘23 and summer activities. My son is (or will be?) a C3C and my understanding is that 2 of his 3 summer activities have already been cancelled, is that right? I’m wondering if it will be possible that he could make a plan of his own and submit it for consideration for the extra time on standby? I’m thinking something similar to what he would have done, like a NOLS trip instead of LEAP (I think that’s what it was called?). Or an internship with an aerospace company? Or another internship in government? Or even an online course? Our family has a high school senior about to graduate, going to a civilian college next year and we are lining up summer internships for her, wondering if I should keep my ears open for my son too?

Your son is officially a C3C. Once the C1Cs graduate, the underclasses are promoted. It is my understanding all the first period summer programs are cancelled. Beyond that, plans are still being made. As for internships for your son, he should first request formal written permission from his AOC before committing to anything. His AOC will likely run the request up the chain of command to the Commandant before a final approval can be granted. Please understand, USAFA senior leadership is very very busy right now dealing with COVID and planning for the arrival of CL24.

Thanks for your reply. It’s so weird, not really knowing his status...I heard the classes bump up after graduation, but he still has finals ahead of him. Of course he wouldn’t do ANYTHING without permission, and I know they’re busy up there. We’ll just stay tuned for more information. Thanks again.
