Do all applicants receive a TWE or BFE in the mail?

I know it’s too late but I have this question that NO one seems to give us a straight answer. Does the AFA mail out a TWE or BFE to all qualified applicants? Regardless, the applicant does not qualify, are we suppose to get some sort of letter in the mail? I know the BCT started last June 28th and to this day, my son still checks the mailbox thinking he might get something? My son started the application process more than a year ago his junior year. Passed all medical, got a nomination from our congressman in Jan 2012 and the waiting begun. He was in touch with is ALO back in Nov to Dec 2011 via email and my son sent him a couple of follow-up questions in Jan and June 2012 and never heard back from him. It’s a little bit frustrating for my son and all of us to not hear from the academy. He is going to college in August and will swim div-1 but was really hoping to attend AFA and swim for the Falcons.

Does anyone know if they still recruit after BCT for class 2016? My son tried to check the portal a couple of weeks ago and it’s gone. His status used to be “qualified applicant”. It will be nice to get a letter from the USAFA Admissions, may it be a rejection letter or something. It just makes the whole application process commendable and not feeling like he was left behind.

Any answer is appreciated; it may give us some closure.
Thanks for the help :)

Hi!

Okay, first things first: no, "they" do not recruit for the class currently going through BCT.

As a long-time ALO I'm going to "guess" here...he was a "qualified applicant" but you've not heard anything? Somehow his name has slipped through the cracks; you should have received the TWE. Not sure why he didn't receive this as the class was filled...perhaps it was lost in the mail, perhaps it just missed...I don't know.

But the ALO should be able to go online to a place called "ALOWEB" (none of you have access, it's ALO only) and he/she should be able to see your son's status immediately. My guess is it's going to say something like "qualified applicant, no vacancy." Or words to that effect.

This year...was the most difficult year and the smallest class selected in 41 years...nothing to be ashamed of! I had several candidates that in any other year would have had early appointments...they're all going to different schools...

1. USNA
2. USMA
3. USMMA
4. Stanford

WE lost some amazing students this year...we just didn't have openings for them!

Is 2017 expected to be larger?

"Military" / "Expected"? Sometimes it's hard to put those 2 words together. But to answer your question; YES, the class of 2017 is expected to be larger. By about 100 more. So, it's planned for approximately 1175. This year was approximately 1050. But; as with anything military related, it is quite possible that this is changed.

As long as you strive to be the #1 selectee on your senator's and representative's slate of nominees; and your goal is to have the best application that you possibly can have; then that is all that can be expected. Then it doesn't matter if they appoint 1000, 1100, 1200, or 1300. Best of luck. mike...

Thanks Steve! That was very helpful. I guess it's time to move-on and focus on his plan B college. I appreciate your advise and ALO expertise.

CHEERS!
