Hey all, thanks for taking the time to read. I'm at a bit of a conundrum right now.

I'm almost at my school's deadline for signing up for AP's courses, but I'm not sure which, if any, I should take. I plan on re-applying to USNA next year, and part of the process of making myself a better candidate is trying to get better test scores. So far I'm training and studying to improve my SAT and CFA. I aldo think I have the ability to get relatively decent scores on quite a few AP exams this spring however,

so does anyone know if AP scores factor into the admissions process?

For context: I'm a HS senior planning on getting rejected this year (hope for the best plan for the worst!) trying to get as good of an academic portfolio for next year as possible.

I've already scored a 4 and a 5 on AP world and lang, but when I sent those in to admissions this year with my SAT they only acknowleged the SAT. The exams I'm pondering taking are Environmental Sci, APUSH, and AP Lit. I'm already signed up for Gov & Pol. That's also the only one with any potential for course validation right now, I believe.

Thanks any and everyone!

If you score 3 or higher on 3 or more AP exams you will receive one of the AP Scholar award which you can list as an accomplishment on your application. SAT/ACT is required for admission. AP is not.
However, if admitted, I believe that you can validate some of the classes with certain AP if you score high enough. From what my kid told me, if you already have 5 on AP Lang, no need to test for Lit. They validate the same class. I think APUS, AP World + AP Gov, and AP Calc can be used to validate. It is best to check the USNA website to confirm.

I do not know for sure but I strongly believe that they do not. If they did, they would be "taking" them for candidates like you in their senior year of high school so it stands to reason that they would not use them for a college applicant either.
That said, the prior comment about "AP Scholar" award might be something that would be considered.

I would focus on an overall plan on how to improve your application. Look at the summer and then your plans for college. I recommend going to a school where you can join the ROTC unit on campus. Show the academy that you can do 'college' level work, plus expand your résumé. As you head into the spring, you may want to request some new recommendation letters that you will use next fall for nominations. Plus, arrange to use the teacher(s) for your direct evaluations for the SAs. Best of luck with your pursuit!

The AP tests themselves are not considered in the admissions process. Focus on your ACT and/or SAT.

Thank you everyone! I've elected to keep it at just AP gov.

Hi,
Not sure if this helps or is comparable...I just attended a West Point admission event with my son and the Admission Director said that AP credit is not given for scores at West Point

Generally for college admissions it is important to take AP courses (that you can do well in...it shows you are taking the most rigorous courses you can. Think about what you like to study, what you could do well in... because you are competing against other students who are taking APs.
AP Env. science is not something that will have much sway in admissions...more important to make sure you have taken Bio, Chem, Physics and an AP version of one of those.
AP Calc is important.
APUSH is a challenging course that you should take if you have interest in history/politics/etc.
AP Lit is important if you are not planning on a STEM major.

But colleges/SAs don't usually take AP scores into account because sometimes you take AP classes senior year and the scores come out after admissions, or people can't afford to pay for the tests, etc.

AP credits are useful for getting credits in colleges...(not at SAs) but you always need a plan B so take a reasonable amount of APs.
