Hello everyone,

I know this is kind of a dumb question, but do candidates still get LOA from USNA in April? I'm still CPR, and I want to know if I should still be a bit optimistic or start bracing for bad news.

Two years ago, DD received an LOA from USAFA three days before national decision date of May 1. Would that be the case today or for USNA? Don’t know, but it’s a data point.

But frankly at this point, it’s the offer that really matters, not the LOA.

Did your DD need a waiver?

It's far more likely to be an appointment but as MidCake pointed out some are given. Regardless, you are still in the running until you get a TWE. You can be optimistic about it, or pessimistic, but you will still be in the running.

I think one of the only cases where someone would get an LOA this close to the deadline is if they needed a waiver. If not, it would either be a full offer or a turn down.

Is it normal for candidates to need a waiver?

Welcome - looks like you joined about an hour ago. You might find reading the Sticky posts at the very top of the DODMERB forum helpful, along with The Acronym List.

Candidates must qualify medically against a certain standard. If they do not, they are given a DQ, disqualification. Some of these DQ conditions or past histories are waiverable. To obtain a waiver, additional documentation might be requested. The waiver authority for the commissioning source makes the final decision. That’s why there are candidates who are still hanging, hoping for a waiver, so they can medically qualify.
