Do I have a chance of making it into a Service Academy or should I aim for a Military College?

My parents strongly encourage me to go to a service academy ever since my cousin made it in USAFA a while ago but I'm not sure if I can make it in. I have a decent SAT Score of 1280 and my current GPA as of the start of senior year of HS is 3.9. I'm not very fit, and I can run around 3 miles at a 10 minute mile pace and 1 mile at an 8 minute pace. I joined the Cross Country team for 3 years and the Swim Team for 4 years along with 2 years of Track and Field although I wasn't good at any of the sports or have a leadership position. I haven't joined any clubs either besides from 1 year in the UNICEF club. I can do around 3 pull-ups, and 30 push ups. My upper body isn't in the greatest shape. I am very skilled at swimming but I don't believe that it will be taken into consideration. So do I have a shot at making it into any service academy? The ones I want to go to the most are USAFA, USNA, and USMA. The military college I have as backup is VMI.

Your first task is to put in the research work to determine if you want to spend at least 5 years on active duty after graduation, what officer specialties appeal to you, what Service appeals to you and whether an immersion military school as a path to officer is the right fit for you - regardless of anyone else’s desires for you. Once you have done that crucial work, you can continue with your other research.

I strongly recommend researching ROTC programs at “regular” colleges as well. A fine way to go.

Alright thanks for your suggestion! If active duty is not required after graduation at wherever I go then I likely will not go. Also I thought this post was taken down since it did not appear but it suddenly reappeared.

A good place to start is each service academy’s website, as your primary source, reading every link, pull-down menu, tab. There are class profiles, recommended HS courses, info on requirements, etc.
