Do most people that apply for the Early Commissioning Scholarship by ROTC National Board get it?

Is it fairly competitive? And is Marion Military Institute easier or harder to get in? I am very interested in those.

And how are ECP scholarship recipients selected?

Make sure you understand what you are signing up for. Are you prepared to serve in the National Guard or Army Reserves when you finally commission. Do you understand that you will have to attend summer training 2 years earlier than a normal Army ROTC Cadet. Do you understand that you will spend two years attending College after you commission, serving as a non deployable, “unbranched” Second Lieutenant. If you are good with all of those things you have a good chance of getting into MMI.

I fully understand and done my research. I actually may want to go in the Reserves and get my Master's in the future. By the way, do you know how ECP scholarship recipients are chosen on the National ROTC board? And how competitive is the scholarship? Thank you.

I looked at your stats, they'll probably drive over to your house and hand you the scholarship to Marion. Ok that might be an over statement, but with your stats you shouldn't have a problem getting the ECP Scholarship.

Just curious, what is it that interests you so much in the ECP program?

Ha ha thank you! And how do you know my stats? And what interests me is that I can commission early (dream to be an officer since I was 4), "grow up" faster, and the benefits. And since I'll be either Reserves or National guard, I can compete for a masters.

You posted them on this board.

You realize that you can go to an 4 year university, complete ROTC, still commission into the Reserves/National Guard, and still complete a Masters.

Even if you do get the ECP Scholarship you will still need to transfer to a 4 year school to complete your degree, a scholarship is not guaranteed for your final 2 years of school.

As far as growing up faster, you will still be in at least 4 years of college, longer if your community college credits don't completely transfer so you can finish in 2 years. Being commissioned early won't be all that you think it will be depending on your unit, you will be a non branched 2LT that is not deployable, in some units you will just do what every they push your way. Working within a branch that interests you may sound good but you will still have no idea what branch you will have until you go through the selection process your final year in college. You will be going to Advanced camp a year earlier them almost all the cadets there.

Sounds like you have done your research, I hope it all works out for you.

Yeah, I realize it. Getting my commission does sound nice though! But if I do 4 year ROTC, than I'd rather go active

If you are applying for the ECP at the same time, I wouldn't count on getting the National Scholarship, ECP will probably grab you up first, then you're out of the running for the National Scholarship.

That is perfectly fine! Thanks for your insight!
