received a LOA from USMA already (got application in early) - have BGO interview coming up just submitted USNA application. If one SA gives a LOA do the other academies know and should I let my BGO know at my upcoming interview I received a LOA from USMA already? thoughts on how that would be received ?

I have only told a few instructors and my principle (those who wrote references) and asked them to not advertise it. although Im proud of LOA -I know other students in my school are still navigating the process and how I felt when one of them got into SLE and I didn't. But didn't know the pros and cons in letting the other academies I applied to know

thanks for any input

The SAs fully expect you are applying to other SAs and ROTC scholarships, possibly receiving LOAs.

They won’t care if you did or did not receive a LOA or even appointment or scholarship elsewhere. Each SA gives LOAs for a variety of reasons, which may not be the same. Each commissioning program is focused on whether you are a good fit for them. All of the programs truly want you to go where you feel you are best suited, if you have a choice. That makes the best combination for both short and long-term success, and the best outcome for a motivated, well-qualified officer, regardless of service - the Big Picture goal for the armed services.

Don’t give it another thought. All application processes are independent of the other programs. No need to tell BGO, as an LOA to another SA is not germane to another SA’s evaluation of you as a candidate.

Edit: recommend letting MOC nom sources know, providing a copy for your application or taking to interview.

The purpose of the BGO interview is to get to know who you are. What makes you tick. And assess you against a set rubric. Which is vastly different than admissions role. They would be the one to determine if an LOA is in your future. Not the BGO.

If you are thinking mentioning an LOA would ‘influence’ the BGO’s write up? The answer would be no. Firstly, it’s not their job to determine if you should receive an LOA, or not. Secondly, the criteria for an LOA could be hugely different between UNSA and USMA. Or not. Hard to know.

If it comes up naturally in the interview? IMO it’s fine to mention it. But I wouldn’t make it a bullet point of my interview.

Good luck in your journey!
