Do you need a DODMERB medical before being reviewed by the AROTC scholarship board?

Dear Bop28, DODMERB's list of Doctors in my area(SEast VA) was 15 to 20 long and all within a 30mins drive.

I agree with Kinnem, they will assign you the doc, and depending on where you live the selection list may be very short, our DS had an option of 2 docs, in NC, both in the vicinity of 20 miles, but even if we weren't military they would not have been our doc because they were on the other side of town.

In No VA, which is much more populated, esp. with military the list was still the same, about 3. I would have assumed more due to the military, but when I thought about it, it made sense that there were so few because there are @7 military installations in a 60 mile radii, which also are allowed to perform the physicals, reducing the need for DoDMERB docs.

For many kids the issue is that the physical states it must occur within X days, and that freaks out kids...don't freak out if the doc can't get you in until after that date, call DoDMERB and explain this is the date of the appointment. Don't put it off to the last day to make the appointment, do it asap.

Two reasons:
1. If you need a remedial, that may require you to receive another physical with a specialist, and specialists can have longer wait times for the 1st available appointment.
2. If you need a waiver, even without needing to see a doc., it puts you back in the system and that wait can be 2 weeks or 6 months.

Yes, I know some kids have attended college without their DoDMERB results, but if paying for college can only happen with the scholarship, you must ask yourself what if I don't get a waiver? How can I afford to stay at that point?
