I am applying to the USMMA. I had a mild shellfish allergy in the past. Is this means for a disqualification?

There are many, many threads about DODMERB issues, allergies, DQs. The key is if you have a diagnosis in your medical records, and you didn’t self-diagnose. You should report honestly on medical history forms and at physical exams, but don’t over-report.

If you reported a shellfish allergy, it may be a DQ. Then, if remedial info is requested, you provide it. Then, you wait to see if a waiver process is initiated and the subsequent waiver decision.

Keep in mind the SAs have different waiver thresholds, because the Service missions, gear and operating environments differ.

It's probably something DODMERB will want to look into a bit:

"g. History of acute allergic reaction to fish, shellfish, peanuts, or tree nuts including the presence of a food-specific immunoglobulin E antibody if accompanied by a correlating clinical history."

What kind of reaction did you get? You said you had a mild reaction in the past? Does that mean you had an allergy once and no longer have it (not likely)? Or you had it once, so you've avoided shellfish since then?

What allergies are cause for disqualification? Will you be disqualified for a penicillin allergy?

For all allergies, take a challenge and prove that you are not allergic and you won't get DQed or your waiver will pass.

Only food, insect, and some medicine allergies appear to be a DQ in the latest DODI 6130.03. All other allergies seem to be a DQ only if they cause anaphylaxis, systemic reactions, or cannot be controlled with medication.
