DoDmerb and Support Dogs

That’s not how I envisioned @DevilDoc. Always pictured him as more of a hammerhead shark than an orca. But free him nonetheless.

Is that an ES whale? Actually, not completely out there to ask. Just saw on the news about all the emotional support animals people have been bringing on airplane: peacocks. Pigs. Squirrels. Donkey. For real. And that now an ESA for airlines is defined as DOG. That’s been properly trained as an ESA, with papers. The actual intent of ESA’s. Good for them 🙌

I am a fan of Devil Doc, and his salty Senior Chief insights are straight shots of reality.

When the tone and specific comments devolved into a more personal exchange with some too off-off-topic comments and personalized verbal barbs that could be viewed as violations of forum rules, I can see why the moderators drew a line. Best to just call a halt and sideline folks for a breather and a re-set. I think SAF is well-moderated and has a culture of generally respectful discourse, especially when compared to more rough-and-tumble forums.

I too hope Devil Doc returns and continues to share his insights.

Any type of dog can legally qualify as an emotional support animal.
Instead of using live support animals, there could be value in using "pet therapy robots." Some have hit the commercial marketplace and appear quite advanced. See "Top 5 best pet therapy robots" recap: https://roboticsbiz.com/top-5-pet-therapy-robots-available-in-the-market/ I can imagine defense contractors are already thinking about multi-role versions with sentry, emotional support, courier, and advanced targeting functions.

While this may be a bogus posting...we do get questions from time to time. The answer is NO. If someone is required to have a support animal, they can serve their country in a variety of capacities, but the military is NOT one of those. :wiggle:
