  • Okay, I am currently a candidate for the United States Naval Academy and I'm terrified right now because on my DoDMERB application it says "Disqualification" next to the dates of my doctor's appointments and next to it there are codes that state the reasons, which include my asthma and and my peanut allergy. I know this is not a good sign, but what are the chances of me receiving an appointment with a food allergy and asthma after the age of 13?

Unfortunately, there is a long list of medical disqualifications that can be found here. https://www.usna.edu/Admissions/_files/documents/MedicalAppendix1.pdf

This is a tough one! A lot will have to do with the severity of the allergies and asthma. My DD was dq'd due to a peanut allergy and was eventually not offered appointment. Hang in there...each case is different.

Thank you!

Okay, thank you so much for your help!

To be honest, true peanut allergies are unlikely to be waiverable. If it's just a lab finding and never really had a reaction to peanuts, there's a slight chance they might consider a waiver if you pass a oral food challenge or something of the sort but to even get to that point the application has to be deemed competitive and the admissions committee has to ask for a waiver consideration. I am afraid that it will be an uphill battle.
